Guest MrRant Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 I think the usual suspects (Yankees, Braves, Mariners, Cards, A's, etc) will be the normal 90ish win selves but I am curious to see if the Angels will be competitive or not this season. I am also curious to see if the Phillies upgrades will be enough to put them into wildcard play.
Guest treble charged Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 I'm curious to see as to whether the Blue Jays will be consistant and finish 3rd for what seems like the 3049th year in a row.
Guest Kingpk Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 The Yankees are going to be very vulnerable this year, ESPECIALLY in the pitching staff, since those guys aren't getting any younger. They'll still win the East by 10 games over the Sox, though.

Guest Vern Gagne Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 The Twins better win 90+ The Jays showed some promise with their new Manager Tosco?? It really depends on the pitching.
Guest geniusMoment Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 All I want is tickets for opening day at Great American Ballpark but I get the feeling they will sell out too fast.
Guest alkeiper Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 I am also curious to see if the Phillies upgrades will be enough to put them into wildcard play. I'm picking Philly to win the division. Atlanta lost most of their bullpen, and 3/5ths of their rotation. Meanwhile, the Phils picked up one of the top 5 hitters in baseball and added Kevin Millwood.
Guest DrTom Posted January 25, 2003 Report Posted January 25, 2003 The Braves are done as perennial contenders. Their strength was always pitching, and they've lost way too much of it this offseason. Their staff is a serious downgrade in quality from last year's version. The Phillies picked the right offseason to do their upgrading, and they jumped all over the Braves' rushed desire to move Kevin Millwood. The Yankees will still be a good team, but a team like Anaheim will still beat them. The fact is, they're just not the defensive team they were a few years ago. They bash their way to wins, as opposed to earning them with pitching and defense. Against teams who put the ball in play consistently, the Yankees' defesnive weakness will be exposed. Early picks: AL East: Yankess AL Central: Twins AL West: A's Wild card: Red Sox Dark horse: White Sox NL East: Phillies NL Central: Cardinals NL West: D'Backs Wild card: Dodgers Dark horse: Rockies
Guest Bosstones Fan Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 Just to add my $0.02 here: Early picks: AL East: Yankess AL Central: White Sox AL West: A's Wild card: Twins Other contenders: Angels, Red Sox NL East: Phillies (Atlanta has slipped too far) NL Central: Cardinals NL West: Dodgers Wild card: D'Backs Other contendors: Cubs (an intriguing team...and I must say that, speaking as a die-hard fan, I am very optimistic about their chances)
Guest treble charged Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 I'm also curious to see how the Expos do this year. I hope they can keep the team they have now (which is pretty much just minus Colon, who they really only had for half of last season) without any further salary dumps. People forget that they finished 2nd in the East last year, and if Vasquez can rebound from an off year last year, he can easily replace Colon's win total.
Guest alkeiper Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 East: Yankees Central: Twins West: Athletics Wild Card: Red Sox East: Phillies Central: Cardinals West: Giants Wild Card: Astros

Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 Just to be a typical New Englander (soon to be Californian) Red Sox - 2003 World champs (based on nothing I've seen, just blind faith)
Guest Youth N Asia Posted January 27, 2003 Report Posted January 27, 2003 I'm just going to say the Tigers will finish last in all of baseball...they just gave up Fick. They've given up all their best players in the last couple years. Bobby Higginson's the only one worth a shit and he signed a no trade deal before they completly shit on the team. I loved hearing the GM's take on the team. "We weren't winning with those guys, so losing them doesn't hurt us."...that makes sense if you're dumping your worst players, but not your best.
Guest alkeiper Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 They still have Carlos Pena. He's easily the best player on the team. Higginson isn't that great. They're still bad though. It will be a tough race between them and the Devil Rays.

It will be a tough race between them and the Devil Rays. Higgy's good when he has good players around him. When he was batting in front on Gonzalas he hit 30+ homers cause they had to pitch to him. Plus he's on of the very top fielders on baseball
Guest Vern Gagne Posted January 28, 2003 Report Posted January 28, 2003 Twins signed Mike Fetters. Nothing to lose, and he's gotta be better than Bob Wells.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 The Orioles are certainly not doing anything to get my hopes up for the upcoming season..
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Fenway to get 280 new seats ABOVE the green monster. I just found this article on totalfark, thought it was interesting, but not really worthy of a new thread...if someone wants to make a new thread, go ahead..
Guest Kingpk Posted January 30, 2003 Report Posted January 30, 2003 Those seats don't look particularly comfortable (although it's just a rendering). They're also (for those who don't read the article) putting new bathrooms and concessions in the place, something SORELY needed. To create revenue, I don't know why they aren't putting ads on the wall itself. Purists will whine but the fact is the Monster's been green only since the 50s I believe. Before that, the wall was covered in ads. Personally, I think the Sox should do what Kraft did, threaten to move to Connecticut and watch the funding pour in (I know the state's in a huge deficit, but that hasn't stopped Massachusetts from spending.)
