Guest R2DFooster McSockman Report post Posted January 26, 2003 That's a lot of music. I'll be sure to download as much as possible tomorrow (abusing the lightning-quick university internet connection OWNZ~!), then purchase whatever tickles my fancy over the next few weeks. You lot will be directly responsible for me being poor. Cunts! Each and every one of you!
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted January 26, 2003 Such Pixies and Pavement love suggests to me you might find a little joy in Modest Mouse. Go with The Lonesome Crowded West, particularly "Cowboy Dan," "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine," and "Out Of Gas," if you want something more along the lines of Surfer Rosa or Slanted & Enchanted type rock-out rawness. The Moon And Antarctica is a solid choice if you're hunting more polished Doolittle or Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain type music, a little more lush but with the same sort of feel. Try "Gravity Rides Everything," "Lives," and "I Came As A Rat." I absolutely and unqualifiedly second the Modest Mouse recommendation, especially The Moon and Antarctica. I consider "3rd planet" to be the best song written, as of yet, in this milennium. Also, pick up some Fugazi. They amazingly get better and better with each album. Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted January 26, 2003 Ratsmilk, as you are an Aphex Twin fan, I feel I must ask you an important question - Do You Know Squarepusher? Yes. Yes, I do. Very good shit.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 26, 2003 Also, pick up some Fugazi. They amazingly get better and better with each album. This astonishes me. I buy 13 Songs and I think, well, I'm set, but noooo, they go and put out about 5 others that I need. At least they'll always be cheap.

In that case, allow me to recommend a few artist to you, and anyone else who digs the Twin. kid606 (the Soccer Girl EP is very Aphexesque. I also suggest his remix of "Straight Outta Compton") Cex (on the Tigerbeat6 label with kid606) Skkatter (a cutter/mixer who transcends that genre. Try to find his Filthy Slut remix of Madonna's "Music". One of the best remixes I've ever heard) Skkatter's stuff is a bit hard to find on file shares, but you can download a couple tracks from his site. Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 27, 2003 kid606 supported the butthole surfers on their last tour. He's cool. He can create some beautiful soundscapes. I'm not a huge electronica fan (yet) but I hang around with one, and in addition to aphex and squarepusher he likes autechre and DJ shadow. I really like what I've heard from them too. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted January 27, 2003 Also, feel free to click the grindcore link in my sig, and check out just about anything there aside from Bongzilla, who are cheesy as fuck and completely terrible.
