Gedo

I don't know if its just the sites I've been to, but lots of people seem to really hate him. Is there a reason for this? I mean, I saw his match with Benoit from the J-Cup semis, and while I was certainly less than enthralled, I was far from offended. Maybe it was just a short match. But is there a lot of Gedo hate out there, or it just so happens that I've been exposed to the small pockets of Gedo Hate that exist in clusters?

Now, its the fact that he BEAT Benoit thats makes us hate him

True. And that "submission" hold is pretty lame come to think of it.

I think most people hate Gedo because Keef says they should.

I've only seen recent work from him, and he's performing pretty well... although I can hardly claim to have seen enough to have a good idea of his work.

He's never been the worst and he'll never be the best. I think that's all that anyone needs to know.

That's kinda what prompted my question. Scott Kieth goes to great length to villify Gedo.

Probably because Gedo in the states and what I've seen from his banana costume Japan stuff SUCKED big time. I don't think it could have gotten any worse. Him and Jericho blew so many damn spots together it was like they were in a backyard fed.

Most people who spew Gedo hatred are basing this on seeing him from 1995-1997 when he was very bad.

I'd GUESS (as in I don't know) that his time in FMW working with good workers like Hayabusa, Masato Tanaka, and Mr, Ganosuke helped him a lot, as well as his time in Michinoku Pro working with talent like Sasuke and TM4. Gedo from 2001-2002 is a prety good worker, he's good enough to the point that SK actually retracted somoe of his hate of the man in his reviews of Best of Japan 2001

I like him. He's good at selling in general and he knows how to construct a match. Granted, his offence is pretty stinky, but he's never really in a situation where that affects match quality to any real degree. I love him in the J Cup 95, he plays a superb punkish heel opposite Dos Caras, Benoit and Lyger, and gets carried to three matches I really like. I love the Caras match especially, with the honourable lucha vs. punkish twat storyline built around some good matwork from both men and some very well timed sportz entertainment influences. The Benoit match I love because Benoit beats the living shit out of Gedo, and if there's one man that can take a serious beating, it's Gedo. And Lyger carries him to a very decent final, it's all good in my book.

I think it's very similar to the Taue hate. Regardless of what they do in the ring or how much they improve, Taue and Gedo don't look like badasses or legit athletes so people don't take them seriously. Even when these guys were bad, they weren't as terrible as people make them out to be.

I like hating him. He's not really bad, but his offence has always sucked, and I'll admit Keith started me against him. Now I just trash him cos he looks funny. No real basis for it. Apart form his GOD DAMN SHITTY OFFENCE. But he's not a bad worker, no.
