Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted January 27, 2003 I got the demo for the upcoming Pride FC game on the PS2 this weekend and I have to say that I will almost definitely pick the game up when it's released. The gameplay is a step above UFC Tapout and the presentation is almost exactly what you'd see in the real thing. With the full version including the likes of Royce and Renzo Gracie, Sakuraba, Antonio Rodrigo Noguiera, and V/Wanderlei Silva to select to kick the piss, snot and shit out of Alexander Otsuka, it's going to be on my "To Buy" list come February. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted January 27, 2003 I agree completely. I'm having so much fun with this demo. Hell even watching Com vs. Com matches is fun!
Guest Downhome Report post Posted January 27, 2003 I got my demo today, I'm impressed. I'll post deeper thoughts as I play it for a while.
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted January 28, 2003 Yes, Com vs Com is actually entertaining to watch. Just saw Igor get knocked the fuck out by Don Frye with a counter punch so vicious I momentarily forgot it was a game.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted January 29, 2003 Well, it's not quite what I expected. I was just assuming it would be like a Smackdown game, only less wrestling moves and more punching the snot out of each other, and was shocked to see my first match end in like 20 seconds. It's kinda fun, but it doesn't seem to terribly deep. Four strikes, takedown, submissions. Unless I'm missing something.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted January 29, 2003 Was this based on the UFC engine?
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted January 30, 2003 It seems to be based on the UFC engine, but they've added a few more elements into the game. Pride is a little deeper than UFC in respects to what kinds of situations in which you can fight. In UFC tapout there were only two types of attack scenarios, stand-up and on the ground. Pride adds to this with two more scenarios. There's the clinch, where both guys are standing and holding onto each other and there's what I call, for lack of better terms, the "turtle defense", where one guy falls to the ground and lays on this back in defense while the other guy is on his feet. From here, the standing guy has the option to let the guy onto his feet, mount him for some groundwork, or, my favorite option, leap over his feet and try to land hard on his face, ala Kazushi Sakuraba. The overall presentation given to me in demo has already sold me on the game (see shill in my sig). It's promising to be a solid buy for fighting-genre gaming fans and MMA fans alike. Guest The Notorious CRD Report post Posted February 1, 2003 Having played the demo, I'm not so sure I agree with IGN's scores. Then again, I was a huge fan of Anchor's UFC game for the Dreamcast so perhaps I'm a bit biased in that regard. I'm also quickly becoming a mark for Pride lately.
