Guest Incandenza Report post Posted January 28, 2003 I don't believe this has been done, so here we are. What are some striking covers you've seen in your lifetime? I'll start: Tom Waits' Small Change (1976) Waits, deep in thought in a stripper's dressing room, is a fitting image, given the music contained within is a lyrical, poetic ode to the alcoholics, prostitutes, and all manner of things that make life great. Artful use of the nude female form, too (and, as a bonus, she has some nice cans).

Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted January 28, 2003 One of my favorites: Sharp, simple, and striking, it gives one hell of a hint as to the weird but perfectly refined dark magic working inside. It's like, "check it yo, there's a rose--but hey, it's all black behind it." "Purty." "But weird, Jethro." Great mixture of texts too; you've got the album title in the elegantish cursive, and then the straight digital font for Depeche Mode. It certainly says Violator to me. Oh, and one more: Prince in undies for the cover of Dirty Mind. Y'all know what time it is.
Guest Scarlet Pimpernel Report post Posted January 28, 2003 I've always liked Iron Maiden's comic-like album covers: Oh, and Metallica's 'And Justice for All...' is pretty sweet too.

Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted January 29, 2003 Anything by Roger Dean. I loved the cover for Rush's Presto. Simple black top hat on a magician's table. U2's The Unforgettable Fire was very picture-esque.
Guest Incandenza Report post Posted January 29, 2003 Slint's Spiderland (1991) John Zorn's Naked City (1989) Ah, black-and-white.

Guest JangoFett4Hire Report post Posted January 29, 2003 I've always like Who's Next. Pissing on the structure that looks straight out of 2001. And the Dead Kennedy's Plastic Surgery Disasters, sort of mocking "E.T" Finally , although this really isn't a favorite of mine, but the morbid coincidence is something to behold: the original cover of Dream Theatre's Scenes from NY, which depicted the famous NYC skyline engulfed in flames. Ironically enough, the release date for the album was 9/11/01.

Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted January 29, 2003 Dammit I bought canadianchick's choice, and was full of excitement until I discovered they meant that planet. I can't believe Perry hasn't sued the asses off the thieving telescope-mongers that discovered that planet and ripped him off.

Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted January 31, 2003 Anything by Pink Floyd basically rules the world. Particularly good are Meddle, Darkside, Wish You Were Here, and Animals, in no specific order.
Guest spiny norman Report post Posted February 1, 2003 I've always thought The Beatles's Sgt. Pepper cover was always really great, but I realise that's a kind of obvious answer. I would say of Pink Floyd's, the pictures in Echoes are amazing. Great attention to detail, they're really well done.
