Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 The *real* question should be "will the Rock be concerned with 'global issues' and wear ribbons to support his cause"? "So Hulk Hogan, You and the Rock, Montreal Canada, Two of the Biggest EVER, Hogan and the Rock, No Way Out, No Way Out indeed... But before I start, I'd just like to take a moment of everyones time to talk about a special project that I am working on. You see, every year over 10 000..."
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 See, that's more obvious a gimmick than Reverend D-Von. You only get to do this angle once, and you get about a month to make it work. So if you're going to base an angle around current events, you may as well try and blur the lines as much as possible between angle and reality. By the same token, I guess they could strap great big fake Satan wings on Shawn O'Haire and let him go out and wrestle, but the approach they're taking now is so much better. They could have made Kurt Angle goofier than all hell (and I guess they eventually did here and there), but all they had to do to lay the entire groundwork for his character was give him the mic and let him remind the crowd that "you do not boo an Olympic Gold Medalist." You have a guy who, until early 2001, was always working heel, but was just getting cheered along the way. Then somewhere the character buzzed out for Bland Babyface Guy. So turn the volume back up and intentionally deny the crowd the cliched parts like the follow-along catchphrases and whatnot. I dunno. I guess I want Corporate Rock. Not Name-Dropper Cocktail Party Rock.
Guest Shanghai Kid 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 See thats the difference between Nation Rock and Corporate Rock. Nation Rock was the ultimate cocky heel who got boo'ed. But Corporate Rock got cheered no matter what he did. So, Rock has to be more like Nation Rock. Arrogant, cocky, and pisses on the crowd.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 But the crowd hates the rock because he favours hollywood over them - so rub it in their faces.
