What Do You Want In Madden 2004?

Recommended Posts

Guest Flyboy

This is coming from me who is a PC Madden player:

During your franchise, if your team has won a couple of Super Bowls over the seasons the GM/President of the NFL offers your team a new stadium.

Could I get some blocked punts and blocked FGs every once in a fucking while?

I know it's in the console version, but I want some late hits or basically more penalties happening in general (maybe have them off-set each other).

Create plays (again for PC -- offense and defense).

If you having a blowout game, the fans start to leave (if you're the home team and getting beaten).

Mascots. Put some life in the cheerleaders, I guess.

Have the players that are actually ON THE TEAM on the sideline.

Don't make it fucking impossible to kick a ball on All-Madden, don't make the CPUs' RBs godlike on All-Madden (basically make All-Madden HARD but REALISTIC).

----------------------------

I had some more, but they have left my mind. Hell, I know most of these won't happening, but it's still good to dream and such. What about you guys?

I have Madden on PS2, and here is what I want out of the next version:

* Those stupid halftime cheerleaders. They can make better with the space they use for that.

* No cheap Madden cards -- those which you can only unlock by playing NCAA or NASCAR games!!!

Here's what I want added. Let me think a minute...

* In create-a-playbook, you only get 84 slots while other coaches get way more than 100! That's why I don't have my own playbook. Grrr.

* Better progression for O-linemen. You can't get pancakes if your life depended on it. I sim 1/2 my games to solve this problem.

* More intimate stadium features -- I so want the "here we go steelers here we go" chant. Each stadium should have their own niche -- I love J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!

* Game play problems don't bother me because that is why the good Lord made sliders.

Here are the suggesions I agreed with you on Fly: Blocked punts/FG's, blowout ...

I also forgot to mention the HUM players being able to have coach changes. (Ala with Jon Gruden coming from Oakland to Tampa Bay)

And a better Create-A-Coach. Have stats like how much they pass, run, aggressive, defense, etc.

I want them to change the progression scale. Unless you have a winning season it's impossible to keep players from getting worse.

The progression scale should be based more on age. The older a player gets the smaller his improvements would be. If the older guys production starts falling off he should decrease. The younger the player the less likely he is to decrease. If the younger guys production keeps increasng then he would get a more rapid progression

Also make it so the better your stats the better your improvement, but having bad stats won't kill your progression. I don't like how even young players decrease just because they didn't have great stats.

The current possesion scale makes it nearly impossible to keep depth to your team. Players decrease just for riding the bench.

I wont buy another madden game until the 2005 version...theres no need to with 2002's franchise mode. Its almost more fun than having updated rosters..and stuff...

Most of what I was going to say has been mentioned...

*More blocked kicks...I remember on the earlier Maddens (94, 95, 96) you could easily block kicks and field goals...I can understand why they knocked it down but I haven't blocked a kick in years...it could use a small bump up.

*Madden cards should all be earned in the game, not having to go buy or rent another game for them...actually I don't mind NCAA but having the other ones linked with NASCAR Thunder is ridiculous.

*Knock down the ratings of the old teams again. I felt the team ratings for the classic teams on 2002 were good...then they knocked them back up to 99 or so for 2003. Some of those teams barely finished .500, or finished under.

*While I'm at it, get the names on the classic teams. I want "Bradshaw to Swann" rather than "No. 12 to No. 88".

*My friend complains about the lack of late hits too. Also you should have a better chance of injuring players after a late hit.

*I'd like to see something where you can substitute players without having to pause...I like to rotate my backs in and out, so I would like to be able to sub them in without having to pause.

*A few more end-zone celebrations.

I just want them to focus more on the game itself. The franchise mode for the most part is the best available. But the gameplay itself doesn't feel like it's been updated since 1996. It's not bad but it's just boring and old now. I want something new. Not stupid training camp games that trick you into thinking you got something new when in reality you're still just playing last year's version with new rosters.

The PC version doesn't even have "cards" that the console versions have, so that's cool for me (I heard it was a pain in the ass).

I just wish they would do more with the coaches. The coaches seem largely interchangeable in the game, and that seems unrealistic. In real life, a coach like Jon Gruden would do more for a team than, say, Marty Mortinwheg. I wish they had coach ratings or something to reflect this.

I also would not mind more variety in coaches. They just seem to trade jobs off after they get fired. What's the point of firing them if only to replace them with a guy who was just fired himself? Maybe add some assistant coaches or something, perhaps even giving them a use on a team. Like, say, if you have an assistant coach who is pretty with offense, then your offensive players will progress quicker than with, say, a terrible assistant coach or no assistant coach at all. Also, if you get fired, you can get hired as an assistant coach whose job it is to run just the offense or defense of a team.

I also wouldn't mnd a GM only mode, where I can just hire a coach, and my job is to basically trade, sign, draft, release, etc.

Other than that, I can't think of too much to add that has not already been mentioned. Other than a Hall Of Fame for my retired players who are good enough to get into it.

I've been able to block a few field goals by calling Punt Block instead of FG Block. I take control of the return man and move him up with everyone else. It doesn't happen often, but I've blocked a few kicks this way, since there's just mad pressure toward the ball. I've never actually blocked a punt since the 2001 edition.

Create plays (again for PC -- offense and defense).

I'd love more ability to create plays. Considering PCs and the X-Box have hard drives, there should be virtually unlimited ability to create your own plays and store them. Also, you should be able to try your plays out on the practice field, with some feedback from Madden about how good (or bad) it is.

If you having a blowout game, the fans start to leave (if you're the home team and getting beaten).

I'd like it for realism's sake, but it doesn't mean anything to the game unless there's a reason for the fans to be there. They could add in things like declining revenues if the fans leave early, but then you're bringing financials into a game that only uses them superficially.

Don't make it fucking impossible to kick a ball on All-Madden, don't make the CPUs' RBs godlike on All-Madden (basically make All-Madden HARD but REALISTIC).

Amen. Those are two of the reasons I hate playing on All-Madden, and prefer All-Pro as a realistic challenge. All-Madden is for masochists.

Some other things I'd like to see:

Better defensive AI, especially on zone coverages. I'm sorry, but when I throw a pass to an open man, there is no excuse for EVERY defender to break off their coverages and surround my player before the catch. That simply doesn't happen in the NFL. If you find an open man, you should be rewarded with the chance for a completion, not four players suddenly sprinting to the ball.

More extensive coaching profiles. I remember the old Front Page Sports series for the PC, which basically asked you about 150 questions to determine your coaching profile. While that's probably overkill, it would be good to incorporate tendencies based on situations. Does your playcalling change when you're inside the opponent's 30 as opposed to your own 30? Do you pound the ball on the ground if you have a lead late in the game, or keep trying to make things happen in the air? Questions like that should go into it.

Get rid of arcade crap like Madden cards, Mummy teams, and other shit that just takes up space on the disc. Put the extra space into more realistic gamplay and AI. Classic teams are a nice touch, but it is too much fucking trouble to NAME the players?

More penalties, within reason. No one wants to play a game where a flag flies on every third play. But I've basically had receivers thrown down and buggered in the end zone, and no interference is called. There has to be a happy medium, and EA's programmers should be able to find.

Tied in with the coaching profile, assistant coaches in the form of Offensive and Defensive coordinators. Sega's World Series Baseball gave coaches, scouts, and front-office types letter grades in various areas to reflect their strengths and weaknesses. This would be a good addition to the Madden franchise.

A GM only mode in Franchise, where you hire and fire coaches, make all the player moves, offseason transactions, drafting, etc. You have the option to watch your team's games, but you can't play them.

Player progressions based on age, toughness, and injury history.

That's all for now.

I forgot all about this one. In the game players like Jim Brown seemed to get straight 99s, while in reality Brown wasn't a 99 in speed/agility/etc...

Better Player Progression!

I play Franchise as the Falcons and Alge Crumpler had something like 140 Rec. 2000+ Rec. Yards and 19 TDs leading the NFL in all categories in the first year. He's the top receiver in the second year as of right now. And what happens... his OVR is a whopping 77 (Or around there).

If someone's putting up MVP stats, then his OVR should be in the 90s.

Oh and whoever said to give the real names to the classic teams instead of numbers, I agree.

Super Bowls - If you play Raiders. vs. Bucs in San Diego, don't have the Chargers logos in the end-zones!

Id like to be able to take over any team i want as opposed to waiting until a coach gets fired when i want to switch teams in frnachise

and yes i know i can just restart but in those 30 years id like to coach a few teams

reallign divisions in case you move say Cinci to LA but they still are stuck in the north

have more involved player negotiations in the offseason

"Get rid of arcade crap like Madden cards, Mummy teams, and other shit that just takes up space on the disc. "

AMEN

i hate all that.. whats worse is my brother in law loves to challenge me all the time but insists on playing in the stupid sugar bowl

few things first....

penalties...

I don't know about you guys, but eveytime a play of mine gets over about 3 yeards, "HOLDING...OFFENSE!!!"

when playing in rain, snow, have the ground all chewed up, muddy as hell... (would be cool).

Each team has different styles of defence...almost eveybody plays that 4-3 position, and everybody has the exact...same...plays...

I like flyboy's idea on new stadium, also new jerseys as well, would be pretty swank.

How could I forget this...

BRING BACK THE CHAIN GANG, DAMNIT!

If it's hard to tell if it's a first down or not, bring out the chains! It was done on Madden in the Genesis days.

The guy gets annoying after 5 min. Flyboy. I am so sick of hearing about "Too much touch on the ball" and not enough "mustard" on it.

He makes no sense what soever. God I hate hearing him.

Personally I like Al better than Pat on the game.

One other thing I'd change is more stats that would equate into progression. Example, I got a DT who is a big help, but he never gets tackles. However, he is always soooo close to sacking the QB, and a lot of times he'll hurry a pass and cause an INT -- too bad I don't seem to find a stat for that because he probably won't progress at the rate he should...

I would like the CPU to offer more trades/try to hire me as a coach. More injuries. NCAA 2003 had like at least one injury per game.

I would also like to see more in the offseason as far as bidding wars etc and CPU's drafting for need.

They need to change the detection or better camera angles of the CB going against the WR, everytime CPU throw deep my CB is always out of position. Also, the CPU could give up some sacks like they used to do its like I have a hard time getting sacks, the old Madden games it was so easier. They need a tutorial/practice session for defense because sometimes I get caught off guard when it comes trying to predict what the CPU offense trying to do, and it seems they know what play im doing especially they shift on my side im trying to run the ball.

Get rid of Madden Cards when it comes to Mummy, Marshalls teams I got the NCAA game to get Dodge stadium and the Marshalls team WTF? Madden Cards should be just boost player abilities and some cheats.

Player Progression needs to updated better especially when it comes to speed ratings it seems like my players can't increase their speed. Why do kickers and Punters get the biggest improvement Progression ratings?

Reasonable/late penalties: I hate when I get a good gain and then they call a bullshit holding call.

Instead of unlocking some dumb made up stadiums, I'd like to able to unlock classic stadiums like RFK, Mile High, or Foxboro, like in the older Maddens [i think you could unlock some older stadiums in Madden 2000] Also, I think that in season or franchise mode, when it is in the final 4-6 weeks of the season, there should be an option to see what a team needs to do to make the playoffs, and during games they could give updates on scores that actually impact your playoff chances late in the season.

I have NCAA 2003 instead of Madden and I have my complaints too.

No more physics defying dives. I hate when I miss a tackle at the line of scrimmage because my tackler inexplicably dives backwards instead of hitting the damn running back.

Slightly better pass defense. It seems like receivers win most jumpball situations and the defenders miss alot of passes. Sometimes the defender's reaction time is extremely slow and some times they put their hands up when you tell them to.

I hate it when I am trying to make a broken play work and find a reciever standing in the middle of the field, it seems like the QB always throws the pass towards the coverage instead of towards the area of the field where the receiver would have the easier time catching it. I have gotten picked off a few times trying to do this and now I don't even bother trying to complete that pass. It seems like a logical thing to do to me, but I guess the AI likes to throw interceptions.

Less cheap bullshit plays. It seems like they are guaranteed to happen when you play in two player mode. Usually I survive them, but I have beaten a couple of times due to a rash of unbeatable fluke shit.

Kicks should be blockable. I haven't blocked a kick since I played Genesis.

It would be nice if you could look at a drive summary after you score. I hate lining up for a kickoff and not being able to see the break down of the last drive.

A slant pattern and a flag pattern would be nice for hot routes.

I hate when kick returns get called back because of a clipping penalty that happened miles away from the action and didn't actually influence the play. Penalties may be nice, but I hate them in that context.

Pass interference needs to be called a little better. I ave felt my controller rumble before on long passes and not seen a flag thrown.

Gang tackling. It's advertised as apasrt of the game, but I have not seen a player be brought down by more than one person yet.

Some kind of planting button. I hate trying to run through a hole and can't quite hit it because I can't steer the back through it. The juke button is nice and everything, but it's too clumsy of a move to do through a hole. Maybe it can be done and I'm just not good enough to do it, but I think a button for planting and changing directions should be implemented somehow.

Less one handed catches. I don't want passes being dropped, but it takes away from the authenticity of the game if every pass you complete is a one handed grab.

Can you dive over the offensive line yet?

Less double coverage completions. I know they can happen if the QB and receiver are good enough, but give me a break. If I can call the right play and have the guys in the right position, at least reward me with a pass deflection instead of having my players watch the guy catch the ball.

The vibration going off on long pass plays is usually from your QB getting leveled not the WR being hit.

I'm talking about myself bumping receivers when I'm defending deep passes.
