Carson Daly=Boring, Good Looking but Popular with Celebs. Gets Good guest (Tonight: Dave Chappelle).

 

Jimmy: Funny, Fat Ugly, Hated, Gets horrible guest.

 

BIG Difference, Carson gets like $20 dollars for his show and brings in big guests...JKL gets Millions and gets Tammy Faye.

ABC needs be ashamed that a 3rd hour show like Carson Daly can bring name players right off the bat with a $20 dollar budget and yet with MILLIONS J.K.L can't draw shit.

Conan was pretty bad of course he had never done anything in front of the camera, except play a page during a backstage skit on SNL.

Yeah but Conan wasn't given a Year's worth of time to plan, given MILLIONS and tons o hype for the Super Bowl...and all J.K did was hire his buddies.

I watched it for the first time tonight. I hope you guys weren't lying about those first two shows being so funny. haha The only thing funny on here was Uncle Frank.

I read that ABC is gunning for him to be the next Carson, and they're ready to support him for 20-30 years (I shit you not)

Television networks are famous for having about as much forethought as the WWE. ABC saying they want to commit to an unproven commodity for 20-30 yrs is funnier than any show they've produced since Welcome Back Kotter.

The other problem with the 20-30 years thing is that Kimmel's brand of humor isn't built to last that long imo. Someone like Carson was accessible to just about everyone. (I watched the Best of Carson DVD over Christmas and I was blown away by how non-snide his show was)

 

Kimmel, while damn funny, is too sarcastic and mean with his humor to be a success on a broad level, the likes of which they seem to be shooting for. He reminds me of Craig Kilborn in the sense that you have to "get" the host to appreciate the show. (I'm a HUGE Kilborn fan so I dig Kimmel as well)

 

At some point, he'd have to tweak his style once the ratings stagnated to appeal to a wider audience and make ABC happier. But would he be as funny? Probably not. And therein lay the catch-22. (imajackoff? correctly pointed out that the main reason is the forethought ABC is notorious for lacking. Sports Night, Cupid, My So Called Life, etc.)

I don't think Cupid belongs in that argument. However, I WAS think JKL would last a year to 3 years at first but after yesterday's abomination and it doesn't look any better, and with Ratings LOWER then what they used to have on after Nightline, "UpClose".

 

I don't think he stands a chance no more and know what? I can't help but smile.
