Guest Redhawk Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 For example, Ultimate Warrior. I'm sure a lot of people loved Warrior back in the day, but now you look back you're like, "Damn, that guy sucked!" Or maybe you can look at them now and realize they suck, but you still watch when they're on TV. Some of mine are... Tank Abbott Ernest "The Cat" Miller Vampiro Koko B. Ware The Sandman New Jack "Reverend" D-Von D'Lo and Teddy Long
Guest converge241 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Tank Abbot Planet Stasiak OHaire - old no gimmick version Vampiro
Guest treble charged Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Big Show That's the only one I can really think of right now. Everyone else I can sort of justify liking. My approach while watching Big Show matches is this: I know I'm not going to get a ***** match, so I'll just watch it with low expectations, and if there's a cool spot in the match, or something, I'm happy. EDIT: I take the same approach during most women's matches, too. For example, during the Dawn/Torrie match at the Rumble, I spent my time trying to figure out whether or not Torrie was wearing any underwear and enjoying the shots we were treated to of her chest. This is especially enjoyable on the big screen of a movie theatre.
Guest converge241 Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I have to add FBI as well all members/incarnations
Guest Zack Malibu Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Back when I was 12-13, I marked for Max Moon. He could have had a Hurricane style storyline, but he just got stuck out there. I think my comic fandom made me percieve him as a superhero type, that's how I got drawn in.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Treble Charged, I like big show too. There I said it. I'm not gonna advocate title reigns or anything, but he's got to turn face and get a partner, he'll never be over as a heel with the amount of jobs he's done. I actually had an adam bomb t shirt, and crush was my favourite. (I was about 12, come on) Hoho, my childlike ignorance, 'Wow, imagine if THOSE GUYS teamed up!'
Guest tank_abbott Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Based on my Sig ---Tank Abbott
Guest saturnmark4life Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I'll also say, like I have before, that reverend D-Von could have been a damn good gimmick. I've expressed my love for Cena and Nowinski before too.
Guest cabbageboy Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Well Cena is an obvious answer here. I agree with Max Moon, there was a guy that was bad ass but never was given much of a chance at all. He had the coolest attire. I recall him being called the Komet Kid in his first appearance and he had a rocket backpack thing. I was about 12 or 13 then though, maybe if I saw him today I'd think it was silly. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Max Moon vs. Shawn Michaels the first ever Raw main event?
Guest Youth N Asia Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Waylon Mercy Honky Tonk Man New Jack Repo Man
Guest crandamaniac Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Looking at my sig, you see that I liked Papa Shango, even tho he wasn't a Bret Hart type worker. Vampiro-I'm probably the only one who liked his Feud with Sting. Gangrel--The spitting blood was cool, I must admit. New Jack--He was shit in the ring, but I still liked him and I can't think of any more right now
Guest Bling-Bling Buchanan Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Any rapper gimmick, from Men on a Mission to Cena and Bling-Bling.
Guest Mad Dog Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I used to love the evil Doink the Clown.
Guest Fook_Hing_Ho Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Max Moon vs. Shawn Michaels the first ever Raw main event? Nope. It was Undertaker vs Damian Demento Consider yourself corrected. Speaking of Demento though, that's a gimmick that I enjoyed watching even when I was a young mark. And of course, the Repo Man. Can't forget Darsow.
Guest gangsteruwa Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Max Mini John Cena Kaientai (evil/indeed) Chris Nowinski (he's such a smarmy bastard) Christian Tank Abbott (how can you not enjoy a scary guy trying to do comedy) Norman Smiley Spike Dudley (ECW version, because I hate his "gimmick" in the WWE) Joel Gertner (has anyone seen him skinny? its fucking creepy.) By the way, Youth N Asia, Morgan Webb is mad hot.
Guest papacita Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 Even though I love her to death, I'm still not 100% sure WHY I like Chyna. Al Wilson-I despised the angle, but he had the funniest schtick (sp?). I couldn't help but laugh when he'd grab the mic like he was about to say something big/important and then start speaking in monotone. Also... Big Bubba/Guardian Angel ZODIAK (I loved that gimmick) Dean Douglas (just cuz everyone else seems to hate the gimmick) And put me down for Papa Shango.
Guest Zack Malibu Posted January 29, 2003 Report Posted January 29, 2003 I liked the Dean Douglas gimmick as well, Papacita. Richards and Meanie (ECW)-they took their lower card comedy roles and got the entire fanbase to support them. Richards wound up riding that popularity into the main event. He's the only guy I can think of with an (intentional) comedy gimmick that was made into main event material.
