Guest red_file Report post Posted January 29, 2003 A recent Rolling Stone came out that had an article in it called "Bug Chasers: The Men Who Long To Be HIV+.," (link), which is about gay men who want to get HIV. Though it's be largely debunked (MSNBC and Salon have some good articles on the logistic holes in the article), it's still an interesting read and a fascinating idea; people who romanticise a deadly disease and then commit suicide on an installment plan. I mean, I knew some people were crazy, but this crazy?
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted January 30, 2003 I've read articles about homosexuals doing this a few years ago -- one was in Time, the other in U.S. News and World Report (I think) -- although it was more for the thrill of dodging the disease rather than trying to catch it. As long as Lemiwinks and company are left alone, I don't give a crap. Let them catch AIDS if that's what they want -- just don't expect me to pay for the health-care costs afterward (and yes, I feel the same way about smokers and boozers, too)... Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted February 2, 2003 I find the reports that Rolling Stone misquoted some of its article consultants in order to make it seem like a more widespread problem more disturbing and wrong than the actual article or its contents itself. Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted February 2, 2003 Let them catch AIDS if that's what they want I don't even like THAT idea. The virus is bad enough already, voluntarily letting it spread more means that it has the oppertunity to mutate, including going airborne. If that happens, it's a very VERY bad thing. Guest razazteca Report post Posted February 3, 2003 well this is the most disturbing fetish I ever heard of but sounds like a cry for acceptance by some misunderstood gays.
Guest TheGame2705 Report post Posted February 6, 2003 The other thing is this incurable staph infection going around CA. People are worried about it. I think these bug chasers are to say the least, fucked in the head, if it's true. Not as crazy as the guy who said that AIDS is a weapon to scare people and that treatments kill the person as part of the plot.
