I got a project in my study of film class.I have to make a movie and it can't be longer than 10 mins.I was thinking about doing a movie about wrestling.

My friend would be the champion and I would be the challenger and then he would job to me in the end for the title.I don't have a idea on how to build up the match in the movie. As far as who I am going to be potraying in the movie,I 'd be Stone Cold and my friend would be Bret Hart.

Help please?

Should I really be Stone Cold and my friend Bret Hart?

Thanks.

So, uhm, exactly what are you going to do besides set up a camera and have what is basically a backyard match pretending to be other people?

Also, is your teacher going to mark down your grade because your using copyrighted characters and whatnot rather than just coming up with your own idea?

Couple of people did Sleepy Hollow last semester and she didn't say anything to them.

My friends did a wrestling movie last semester and they got a C for the movie being to long (45 mins) and too much violence, according to the teacher. When I watched the tape though, there was no blood and no weapons and they wrestled on matresses in their backyard.

I plan on using the school gym.

Their movie only had matches. They had no buildup to it.My movie would be different than theirs.I don't know how to build it up,that's why I posted this topic.

No offense, but I really don't think you should do your project on Pro. Wrestling.

Well using Sleepy Hollow is a bit different than using Austin and Bret.

You should try coming up with original "characters" to play.

I could be just a dude trying to beat my opponent for the belt and my friend could be a cocky heel like Rock during '98.

Do a hardcore match like at Wrestlemania 16 with the camera moving along while random people attack out of nowhere to win the title.

You can have strategicaly placed things like someone in a car which screeches to a halt as you go into the street.

Do only the intros and the victory celebration in the ring/gym (I can hook you up with themes in MP3 format if you need any)

Thanks Eagan.

Somebody at this board suggested a idea about Rock's return. He would diss the wrestling industry and be the champ and Benoit comes out and defends it.Then the two have a match and Rock jobs to Benoit.I could just come up with two different names and do it like that.

What'cha think?

So you're gonna do the build up and have a match all in 10 minutes? Hmm... sounds familiar.

I guess I will.I would make it longer but the teacher would just skip through the tape and show some parts.

How would you build up the match?

Have one guy get a deal for a shampoo commercial, and then the other guy attacks him cus he's jealous and he wanted it himself?

I like the 'hardcore invitational' concept. Make up like 10 wild characters with predominantly easily explainable gimmicks (Berzerker=viking, etc.) and work from there. You could do some character development as the match goes on and add some twists at the end to make it interesting. Basically, turn 'The Amazing Race' into an 8-minute wrestling match.

Idea:

Do it from the prespective that you were either close friends or former tag team partners. Eventually your partner turns on you over the jealousy of being in your shadow.

So your out for revenge to some degree but at the same time torn b/c he was so close to you in the past. You could even do a quick scene where he fakes wanting to get back together then attacks you.

I don't think doing it in the school gym is a smart idea. They could bust you for it. Why not just do a documentary on backyard wrestling instead?

Well, one thing you COULD do is record about an hour and a half's worth of footage, and then clip it all down to 10 or 12 minutes. Have your own "Director's Cut" of it, upload it to the net, and let us all see it. :D

Create your own characters. Only do basic things, or moves you KNOW you can pull off. Use mats about an inch thick, or just do a "crowd brawl." Make the anticipation worse than the event. If you're going to build up to the match, have the first 5 minutes of the project be the build-up (recap what is meant to be months/years worth of footage, all leading up to the final match), and either clip the actual match (to show the high-spots) or just JIP it to the final 4 or 5 minutes of the match.

Like I said, actually record and hour and a half's worth of footage, with the match itself somewhere around 20 minutes, and the rest all build-up. Trim it down, and have your own Director's Cut of it.

I might actually do that.I'll probably do the whole match in 5 minutes or so.I get the advantage in the beginning,he CHEATS~! to gain advantage by low-blowing me.I make a come back and kick-wham my move.

Nah, dude. Don't do that. Then you can't watch your Director's Cut!

If this is any kind of decent film class, editing equipment should be readily available, should it not? Cut the 10-minute "Class Cut" of it, and then your own longer "Director's Cut," bro.

Guest ShamRock

I'll just do two of them. One for me and the other one for the grade.

About the editing equipment,I don't show. What we do is just take notes when watching a movie. The movie that we are supposed to make will be our final.

...dude, that so sounds like a great class...

I mean, watch a movie, make your own movie...

Guest ShamRock

I only took it because my friend's sister told him it was cool, because you watch movies and all that kinds of shit.

It's boring.I was expecting to do way more projects and stuff, but I guess shit happens.

I think the idea Eagan469 put forth is far and away the best one yet. The concept moves along quickly and if you have easy to identify character archtypes it will be easy to follow. The "anti-wrestling" crowd won't pick up on the wrestling aspect right away and give you more of a chance. It feels a lot more creative then shooting a couple of interviews and, forgive me for saying, fucking around on a matress/gym mat for five minutes.
