Guest JMTapes Posted March 12, 2002 Report Posted March 12, 2002 Did anyone else enjoy the old WWF weekend shows? I had more fun watching these back in '93-'95 or so than I've ever had watching a Raw or Smackdown brodcast. I think that's why I started trading tapes. My favorite was Superstars. It seemed like something cool happened every week, and that it went on forever. Spotlight was also good, although I had to get up at EIGHT O'CLOCK AM to watch it. Challenge seemed like it was a cheap ripoff of Superstars, but I've since become more fond of it. Your thoughts?? -Jim www.jmtapes.com
Guest Drury37 Posted March 12, 2002 Report Posted March 12, 2002 Weekend wrestling was the best.Check out my weekend wrestling schedule from 1992-1993 Saturday: 9:00 am:WCW Power Hour 10:00 am:WWF BWF/WWF Mania Noon:WWF Superstars 6:05 pm:WCW Saturday Night Midnight:WCW World Wide Sunday: Noon:WWF Challenge/WWF All American Wrestling 6:05 pm:WCW Main Event This was just on a normal weekend the weekends with WWF Saturday Night Main Event or a PPV were even better!!! Thanks.
Guest Drury37 Posted March 12, 2002 Report Posted March 12, 2002 Why did all my zeros come out as that guy?HAHA!!! Thanks.
Guest Tony149 Posted March 12, 2002 Report Posted March 12, 2002 Weekend wrestling was cool. It was the Raw & Smackdown's before those were even around. Ah, the good 'ol days. Drury37, you post went like that probably because of putting : 0 together making it look like :0. It's just a little flaw.
Guest converge241 Posted March 16, 2002 Report Posted March 16, 2002 I miss those weekend shows full of squashness and jobberrific entertainment. What the heck did all those former jobbers do once they changed over to the new formats? Imagine being an Iron Mike Sharpe, or whoever and the tell the whole enhancement talent division that they are getting rid of you all.
Guest Drury37 Posted March 16, 2002 Report Posted March 16, 2002 That's a very good question, what happened to all the jobbers? Thanks.
Guest converge241 Posted March 16, 2002 Report Posted March 16, 2002 either that or they filed lawsuits (hardbody harrison, "hard work" bobby walker)
Guest Drury37 Posted March 16, 2002 Report Posted March 16, 2002 Yeah I agree, with they either became glorified or they filed for law suits. Thanks.
Guest Tony149 Posted March 16, 2002 Report Posted March 16, 2002 I doubt the jobbers filed lawsuits. Sonny Onoo, Bobby Walker & Hardbody filed lawsuits saying there was racism in WCW for not pushing them or something like that. The jobbers were probably released. I don't think they had contracts.
Guest converge241 Posted March 16, 2002 Report Posted March 16, 2002 I was only joking about them all filing lawsuits. probably should have thrown a smiley icon in there or sumthin' those guys were just the last prominent jobbers i could remember from their names being brought up all the time in those lawsuits.
Guest dreamer420 Posted March 16, 2002 Report Posted March 16, 2002 I just assumed most of the jobbers were local indy workers.
Guest Drury37 Posted March 19, 2002 Report Posted March 19, 2002 Yeah, they were probably just released,I liked the jober matches because when two big named wrestlers would wrestle it each it would mean more. Thanks.
Guest Tony149 Posted March 19, 2002 Report Posted March 19, 2002 It would be weird how wrestling would be today if jobbers were still around. Do you think ratings would of been as high as they were during the "Attitude" era with the top guys wrestling jobbers?
Guest dreamer420 Posted March 19, 2002 Report Posted March 19, 2002 The jobbers were a part of the business that had to change. The format for WWF TV was WWF superstar vs. jobber. Superstar kicks the crap out of jobber. Jobber mounts a small comeback before taking the Superstars finisher and calling it a night. Come to think of it I do miss the shows like that but Raw and Smackdown are good enough for me now.
Guest Drury37 Posted March 20, 2002 Report Posted March 20, 2002 I could picture there being a WWF Colisuem Home Video tape, WWF Revenge of the Jobbers, hosted by Shawn Mooney!!! Thanks.
Guest GatesFTW Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 of the old shows, I loved the Piper's Pit and the Snake Pit and even Brother Love. They were fun. I liked when Piper attacked Snuka with a cocoanut. Great Stuff. I also like the Piper's Pit when Piper was at a McDonald's ordering an McDLT and we see a boulder go through the window and Ken Patera challenged Dino Bravo to a tug of war. So they tugged of war at McD's and Piper or Patera must have hired some super heels because the Rougeau Bros drove past the drive thru window of the McD's with a 16 gage shotgun and KILLED Dino Bravo as Frenchi Martin and Martin Brodeur wept. And just as I'm saying, WOW THIS IS THE BEST INTERVIEW IN SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT HISTORY, Joey Marella, Gorilla's beloved son drove into the McDonald's killing himself. And Piper hit Snuka with an egg mcmuffin.
Guest nWoScorpion Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 OMG, that had to be the funniest bit ive read ever. P{iper hits snuka with an egg mcmuffin?! LMAO.
Guest GatesFTW Posted March 22, 2002 Report Posted March 22, 2002 Also, this is a bit of trivia, Sean Mooney washed up in boston as a legitimate news anchor. Yes. Real news. on WBZ, channel 4. he's since left to host masterpiece theatre i think.
Guest JMTapes Posted March 23, 2002 Report Posted March 23, 2002 Ah, a fellow Bostonian!! Funny stuff, although the Joy Marella thing was a little harsh, considering he WAS killed in a car crash. -Jim jmtapes.com
Guest Drury37 Posted March 23, 2002 Report Posted March 23, 2002 I was watching the Fox Sports Net once and all of sudden they go lets go live to Anaheim where Sean Mooney is at Spring Training with the Angeles,so of course I started going here he comes down say Mooney,Mooney!!!I remembered when he was UPN 9 over here in New York,(well I lived at the time and still live in Connecticut, but I get all the New York channels)it was Mooney every night. Thanks.
Guest krambigmac Posted March 23, 2002 Report Posted March 23, 2002 I remember seeing Mooney on channel 4 a few yrs ago and I heard that he wants to forget all about working in the WWF. I guess it wasn't his dream job to be the next Craig DiGeorge. Who remembers Craig?
