Wrestlefest 91

I rented this tape just for this match. It's nothing special standard WWF tag team formula (Hawk plays Ricky Morton). What I love though is the Harts are totally playing the heels in this match, which makes sense as it appears to be post WM VII just before Bret got his singles push, and LOD were on their way to the Tag Titles. Just wondering any other opinions on this match from those who've seen it.

i love this match, one of my favorite hart foundation tag team encounters. i'd add specific stuff, but i haven't seen it in a while.

It's a great match I agree and I liked how they all made up at the end

Well maybe I need to rewatch it, I did love how the Harts did that slingshor double team early in the match on Hawk and then later LOD did the same to Bret.

I think it's a pretty good match. I remember the first time I rented the tape, I was about 11 and a die-hard Bret fan. I wasn't too big on the LOD after Animal caught Bret in mid-air and crushed him into the mat for the pin.

I THINK the match took place in Las Vegas in the days following WrestleMania VII. I know that the Savage / Martel and Hogan & Warrior / Slaughter, Adnan, Undertaker bouts from that same taping were later put on CHV as well (World Tour 91). But I haven't been able to find info on that particular taping so I don't know for sure. Bret was working a singles match against Ted Dibiase on SNME within a month of WrestleMania, so it's safe to say that the WWF wasted no time making this match happen following the PPV.

Because when you hear the words "World Tour", you think of Las Vegas.

So what would star rating be (I know they're objective, but why not it's an easy way to gague reactions)

I'm almost positive that the Harts/LOD match wasn't in LV. This match was from the same venue as, I THINK, Martel / Valentine which was from Tuscon, AZ or somewhere like that.

I'm not big on star ratings, but I'd say ***1/2. Haven't seen it in a while though.

It was a pretty stellar match; nothing special but still much better than your typical CV exclusive match. One thing I liked about tapes of that nature that were put out during 1990 and 1991 is that they'd throw in a face vs. face match, or even a heel vs. heel match. The Harts/Rockers match from Wrestlefest '90 was pretty good and the Harts played the heels on that occassion as well. Then you have the match which was the baises of this thread which was also quite good. The Orient Express/Power and Glory match from Rampage '91 was pretty dull, although it was sort of odd to see Slick (the Doctor of Style, NOT Rev. Slick) and Power and Glory end up playing the faces and actually getting some sympathy from the crowd. One can't forget about the Harts/Steiners match from Wrestlefest '94 which is regarded as one of the best matches out of that era.

And dating WAY back, The Dream Team defended the WWF Tag Titles vs. Nikolai Volkoff and The Iron Sheik on Best of WWF Volume 7 and The Hart Foundation vs. Sheik / Volkoff on Volume 9.

I've got to get my hands on Harts vs. Steiners.

Harts & Steiners is a long, long match. There's some parts where the match just keeps going and going, but then there's parts that are just awesome. It's worth buying Wrestlefest (Razor vs. HBK and Diesel vs. Bret are good too).

I'd give LOD vs. Harts ***. When I first bought Wrestlefest 91, I was in love with this match...but now I'm slowly losing love for it.

Brian Matheson is selling a tape of the top 20 matches of the 90s- it has that match.

Check out tape trading- you'll need to go back a bit

Ah true that. I had forgotten about them. Even though I've got both of those tapes, I haven't even really watched them since I used to rent them about 10 years ago. Both matches were pretty lackluster, especially Dream Team/Volkoff and Sheik.

While we're talking about face vs. face- heel vs. heel stuff, let us not forget about Koko B. Ware vs. Tito Santana from Supertape 4, which was from a MSG show. Come to think of it, they did a lot of face/face- heel/heel stuff at those sorts of shows.

I heard they were foreshadowing a Koko B. Ware heel turn with that match.

Yeah, they were hinting towards it during the match, but Koko made nice with Tito after the match. Both guys were actually showing some heel traits throughout the match, but I couldn't really see either one as a good heel.

What the hell did Santana expect in that match? He offered to shake Koko's hand every time he showed him up. Cripes! It reminded me of Sammartino/Zbyzko(sp?) back in 1980.

Koko B Ware was a heel in Memphis

I hadn't considered that. When I'm able to get my hands on my tapes, I'll def look that over. The Arizona tour was in May. And I believe that was the Harts' last match as a team - until they had one shot against the Nasty Boys in July at MSG.
