Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 The 1/30 edition of Smackdown did 3.2 broadcast rating, with a five share, according to Nielsen Media Research. UPN finished in fifth place for the night. The rating is down from recent weeks, but Smackdown was preempted in a number of markets last night. 1wrestling
Guest kurtangledoesnotsuck Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 That's pretty awful and it just goes to show that "surprises" can only buy you one week of success.
Guest AndrewTS Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 Yup. As I noted in the start of the O&O thread, the ratings are guaranteed to tank because it was preempted in a ton of places, so it's going to be low. Better than I expected, though. Still, this means that Raw is for certain doing better in the teeny, tiny brains of WWE brass. *whimper*
Guest HartFan86 Posted January 31, 2003 Report Posted January 31, 2003 Anyone think the rating went down cause Hogan wasn't there?
Guest areacode212 Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 No. Unless a significant number of people read spoilers, this is the week where you would have expected the number to go up because of Hogan showing up last week. Though I didn't expect much of a bump in any event since Hogan didn't make a lot of difference in the ratings last year.
Guest Dangerous A Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 I think the rating shows that Hogan is not a significant ratings draw. If Hogan was, then the interest in seeing him again would have peaked interest again for this week's show. Although spoilers are available to people and the IWC knew Hogan wasn't going to be there, the other 98% of wrestling fans still watching don't read spoilers and obviously didn't care about the Hogan program. If ratings don't go up the week they announce both Rock and Hogan are on the same show to have at least a confrontation, then they have a problem because it'll mean no one is drawing shit in WWE except Austin.
Guest AndrewTS Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 *Ahem* Pre-empted in many major cities? It may have gotten a big rating otherwise.
Kurt Angle Mark Posted February 1, 2003 Report Posted February 1, 2003 You need to realize that the show was preempted in many areas including D.C and Detroit. When Smackdown was preempted in L.A. and New York this past August it got a 2.7 rating.
