Astro101 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2003 From "From the Inside" with Borash, it is said that "It is doubtful Tony Schiavone will return to TNA." He must've done something horrible or something. I mean, they gave him some serious air time this Wednesday and had a thing going on. I wonder what's up.
Guest BoboBrazil Report post Posted February 1, 2003 Shiavone said this himself on a radio program Wednesday night after the ppv. He was in a car with Sanders, Russo, Raven, and Disco and Russo was the scheduled guest on the show. Russo handed the phone around to all the guys in the car and when Shiavone talked he said that he was now officially retired.
Guest The Thread Killer Report post Posted February 1, 2003 No. This is terrible. Let us all have a moment of silence. Okay, that's long enough.
Guest The Notorious CRD Report post Posted February 1, 2003 Well... that makes his appearance this past show stupid and pointless. WTG.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted February 1, 2003 Before I read what BoboBrazil said, I figured it was for busting out the profanity after they'd been asked to cut down on it. Either way, I'm glad to hear this, because I'd rather hear Tony as a commentator than as an on-screen character.
Guest NoSelfWorth Report post Posted February 1, 2003 Or maybe he's trying to swerve people. We know how they're obsessed with swerving. Even if it means losing out on potential revenue.
Guest Galactic Gigolo Report post Posted February 1, 2003 I totally loved Tony's character on TNA this week. Though I do feel that his usefulness would've expired in a week or two (there was a few more jabs about Tony to be made), I still would've loved to see more out of Tony and Tenay. Astro101 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2003 Well, the follow up from 1wrestling... "As a follow-up to Jeremy Borash's "From The Inside" column where he says it was doubtful former WCW broadcaster Tony Schiavone would be back on NWA:TNA, it should be noted that Schiavone still is employed by WSB Radio in Atlanta. He was the studio host for the Atlanta Hawks radio network last night. "

Can make more money from the other job and heck, I can't blame him for sticking with it. Although, if TNA gets on cable tv, I would love to see them give good paying jobs to Tony and Scott and have them be the "S.E.X." announcers. (I'm probably the only one with this opinion I realize.) I don't know too much about this Borash guy (not even when he was with WCW) but is he being all "kayfabe" here? He could mean that Tony won't be with TNA, but with SEX instead... *shrug* whatever. He's more entertaining as a character than as a crappy commentator, IMO. *Booker T delivers the Book End* "SIDEWALK SLAM!!" *Bret Hart locks in the Sharpshooter* "SIDEWALK SLAM!!" *Kevin Nash is shown walking backstage* "SIDEWALK SLAM!!" (okay, that might be pushing it but you get the idea...)
Astro101 0 Report post Posted February 2, 2003 From the Inside is the TNA's equivilent of the Ross Report.
Guest RickyB Report post Posted February 2, 2003 Actually, Tony Schiavonne was a good commentator until he got sick of the WCW product. Watch BATB 96, his commentry on the Outsiders/Sting, Luger, Savage match was what made the Hogan turn IMO.
Guest NoSelfWorth Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Meltzer just reported that Schiavone is gone, and that he's heard some in NWA:TNA are blaming it on Mike Tenay not selling enough for Tony.
Guest BifEverchad Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Meltzer just reported that Schiavone is gone, and that he's heard some in NWA:TNA are blaming it on Mike Tenay not selling enough for Tony. Ok, I have to say it...Mike Tenay is a decent enough commentator, and I like him from time to time. But his 'on screen' role in TNA is just flatout pathetic. The facial expressions and his ruthless attitude, sticking up to those like Russo is not called for. When I see Tenay screw up his face and shout back at the heels, its horrible and definately doesnt help the storylines. On to Tony Schiavone. With regards to his last few years, towards the end of WCW, I wasnt really his biggest fan. He wasnt as good as he used to be, was annoying, and just a joke to make fun of mostly. But hearing his voice on TNA this past week, made me realize that he WAS the voice of NWA/WCW in the 80's and 90's, and for that I like him. So whatever they are planning, or were planning on doing with him in TNA, I dunno. But after hearing him last Wednesday, I was hoping he would return to the desk and liven up TNA on a commentators level, as apposed to JUST Tenay and Don West. Guest eirejmcmahon Report post Posted February 3, 2003 I've a feeling that they're going to move Tenay into a Vince McMahon role - he's behind the desk commentating at the moment but both Styles and Konnan have implied that he has a lot of 'stroke' so I reckon that he's going to move into the role of on-air boss. Astro101 0 Report post Posted February 4, 2003 A commentator no-selling...heh. That's too bad if it's true. I enjoy seeing faces and heels argue with no one actually backing down.
