Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 3, 2003 "Edited to add: I do like his books, though. I find them pretty good reads. His TV work is pretty crazy though. He applies way too much of his own spin." Funny thing about his books -- I own both of them, and all they contain (just about) are excerpts from his show. Both books disappointed me, but whatever... Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Really? Huh. I don't watch the show enough to know. My thing is that I can't stand the show because it's pathetic to watch him argue with many people. When Sesame Street introduced an HIV+ Muppet in South Africa (where AIDS is through the roof and some education is desperately needed,) Bill was trying to start an arguement with the Henson rep. She was discussing how they approach these issues, he'd suddently interrupt about how he didn't want an AIDS muppet in the US, she'd reassure him the Muppet won't be on the US cast, and they'd sit and repeat over and over. She was telling him exactly what he wanted to hear, but he kept trying to trap her into making it sound like the US was getting an HIV+ muppet. Finally, after she finished her dialogue, he ended it with "nice idea, but I don't think it's appropriate for over here" or something liek that.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 3, 2003 I remember him talking about the AIDS muppet, and from what I recall he was saying that he could understand why there would be such a muppet in Africa, but it would never fly over here...
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Why does a Muppet HIV. If the South African version of Sesame Street chooses to have a character who is HIV positive, why not a real kid. Sorry to change the subject. The idea of a glorified hand puppet having Aids is a dumb idea.

Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 5, 2003 Seeing how the AIDS rate is sky-high in Africa, the purpose of the HIV muppet is to teach kids at a young age not to discriminate against HIV children...
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted February 5, 2003 right, kkk, and also maybe for prevention purposes.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 5, 2003 I understand why there doing it. I just think a someone who actually has HIV would be moe effective, than something that's not real.
Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted February 5, 2003 ok, but the kids might start asking questions when an hiv kid starts looking grotesque or they have to replace the kid every few months. The muppet gets the point across methinks.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 5, 2003 I see your point. I'm just freaked out by Muppets.
