Guest mw679 Report post Posted February 2, 2003 Hey guys, just found out Friday that my company is closing the doors (been there 6 years) and moving the operation to Burlington, NC. I've thought about going with them, supposedly they are gonna ask some people if they are interested. So, I figure the winters have got to be better than here in MA. The apartments seem pretty cheap price wise and my gf has even expressed moving down there with me. So, I was wondering if anybody here could give me some info on the area, what it's like, how the people are, I've got some info but it would be great to hear from some people that are already there or grew up there. Thanks, I'd really appreciate it.
Guest Sandman9000 Report post Posted February 3, 2003 The college I go to, Elon, is right next to Burlington. Area isn't that great, though, especially the farther I go into Burlington. Also, there isn't a ton to do there, so you'd have to drive down 40 to Greensboro or something. Weather is nice, MUCH better then New England. It's up to you, though. I can't give a recommendation to, but I can't say don't.

Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted February 3, 2003 No offense, but all states with a direction in them (North, South, West) are pretty bad. I spent 2 years in SC, which is just slightly worse than NC but not as bad as WV. Never been to either dakota, but I the lack of civilization in 9/10s of the state can't be a good thing. Guest mw679 Report post Posted February 3, 2003 Ahh, thanks for the tips, guys. I've heard some good and bad. I guess that goes for anywhere you live. Sandman, how is Burlington? Is it, like, slummy or just kind of unpopulated, back-woodsy type of place? Just trying to get some details. Thanks again for the help!
Guest B-X Report post Posted February 5, 2003 Burlington is okay. But like Sandman said, all the action is in Greensboro or Raleigh. And Sandman is in NC? Shit.

Guest treble charged Report post Posted February 5, 2003 My uncle used to live in Rocky Mount, which I believe is in NC. Now he lives in Tennesee, or however you spell it.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted February 5, 2003 Which part of SC were you in, Marvin? I love it down here near the coast.
Guest crandamaniac Report post Posted February 5, 2003 I live in NC myself, about an hour west of Greensboro, but I've only been to Greensboro once, and have only driven thru anything east of it on my way to the beach, so I couldn't tell you much about that area. But if you need any info on the Winston area, I could hook you up there.

Guest Raven_Effect01 Report post Posted February 8, 2003 I live in NC and I find it boring too. Not much to do and a hell of a lot of rednecks.

Guest mw679 Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Well, it looks like I'll be heading down to NC for at least 4 weeks. Good thing is, I won't be going down by myself. The shop foreman and a couple other of co workers will be going down for the same amount of time. I know so far I'll be getting time and a half to go work and all expenses are paid, so I can't complain too much, I just need to be here in Boston for the Audioslave concert on the 3rd of March. This way, I can at least check out the area for myself. I heard there are certain rules, too? Like, no loud radios after 7 p.m., things like that. True?
