Triple h off the record

Well, I missed Ric Flair's Off the Record interview, but caught Triple H's last night. It was pretty interestng.

On Stephanie being his girlfriend:

Basically said they were just hanging out with each other since he was helping with the writing and were on the road a lot. He said that they didn't actually really notice until Vince Mcmahon started to wonder if the two were an item.  He was a bit worried at first because it IS the boss' daughter. He then said it was okay when Vince didn't mind. He was asked about the conflict of interest since he also writes with Steph. He said he was really worried about that because he might get heat from the other wrestlers. Undertaker who he says he looks up to told him that no one in the locker room can say that he didn't work his way up the ladder. Once he got that from Taker he felt better about the situation. The interviewer then cornered him again when he asked what happens if things don't work out?

Triple H said he thought about that at the beginning and they talked things over. He said there shouldn't be any problems. The interviewer still asked him what would he do because it is a conflict of interest. He says he would just have to deal with the situation however it may be. This question the interviewer really hardballed him on and you could see it on Triple H's face. He started to go to "work" and the interviewer said "once you go to work we go to the next question" in a half jokingly way. A clip with Chyna was shown speaking about Stephanie "stealing" her man. She said that no one can be stolen the person has to willingly go. Triple H responded that if that's how she feels then he can't disagree with her.

Who's his favourite or best opponents:

He said that he likes facing Undertaker because he is so old school. He likes facing Rock because he can work with the showmanship he brings. He likes facing Austin because it's just a down and dirty fight.

On what he thinks about the main event not being the headling match for promotion:

He said that on Sunday the championship match will be in its rightful place. Whatever that means (don't know if he meant the showstealer or the last match). He said he wasn't too upset because Hogan is like Babe Ruth and you can't really knock his place in the business. He said it's like Michael Jordan's press for coming back in the NBA. It was the top "storyline" of the NBA, but it's questionable if he's the best at this very  moment. He said what he's really more concernd with was the build up for the title match.

On Ric Flair:

Says he is the man and studies his tapes.

On Hulk Hogan:

Babe Ruth of Wrestling

On World Champion Jericho:

The interviewer stated he is the talented world champion, but some fans don't see him as the top star and he wonders why. Triple H stated that Jericho is good and is just missing that something to get him on the level of the top drawing guys. He's almost there, but something's missing and Chris will find it. He says some get that "something" right away, while others take a slow burn like he did.

On Shawn Michaels:

This was interesting. The interviewer asked about what happend last year before Mania and if the wwf was justified. He said yes. He said they are still good friends though. He says it was his idea for bringing Shawn back. He said something to the effect of disappointment or something. The interviewer seen it was a tight spot to actually say what happened and let it slide to the other question.

On his injury:

Said anyone in the locker room would have done the same thing by continuing the match. He says when Jericho put him on the announce table he was asking him if he was alright. He said yeah to go on. He said he knew right away from when he landed bad from the clothesline in the ring he tore his quad.

Who would win in a real scrap:

He says he would be one of the first people out the door(I wonder if Bret's "biggest punk" comment was heard by Triple H before this statement which would proof Bret right *lol*). The announcer asked if it would be Angle and Trips said yeah it's possible, but how would he get Big Show down though. He said Taker in real life wants to tough it out with Big Show to see who's stronger. He said Taker is a real candidate in a real scrap.

On MSG incident:

He says Michaels had asked Vince to do something for Hall and Nash, but not exactly what went down in the ring. Trips said he knew something was going down like maybe a Kliq sign from afar or something, but nothing like what they did in the ring. He says he was the one who got punished for that. He said obviously Shawn was untouchable because he was the world champion. BTW, it's funny how he says world champion in shoot interviews, but hardly ever in character. He says what's done is done.

This was basically the gist of the interview from Fan AXXESS. I have to admit watching this interview makes me see how Triple H can have political pull in the wwf. The man was a politician in this interview not trying to upset the locker room image. Pretty smart how he answered questions.

Forgot this question which I know a lot here would have asked Triple H. A question was asked how does the wwf prevent wrestlers from pushing themselves over others a la wcw? He answered by saying there is a filter called Vince Mcmahon. Take that how you want. He said everyone tries to help everyone because the more people on top the more money he can make with matches against them.

thanks for the recap. Could you do one for the Undertaker interview? I'm interested in hearing what he has to say about his little chat with HBK regarding Shawn not wanting to drop the title to Austin.

Vince is a filter? Time to get that filter changed cause its clogged and not letting the new guys through.

Thanks for posting this here.

I wish we got TSN in the US. I saw it while vacationing in Montreal but that's it.

The Off The Record show is the only one I've heard of where wrestlers can come on and have a serious interview.

HHH has got to be the first guy I can think of to not immediatley say Angle is the toughest ((dont let Anglesault hear about this)).

That rightful place comment is odd. It's like saying "yes its going to happen when it is scheduled to happen". what does that mean? Maybe HHH hasnt been told for sure which match is ending, in the event they are not sure of the respective finishes?

Vince's probably debating finishes for the three main matches: Austin-Hall, Rock-Hogan, and HHH-Jericho.  Considering the politics involved in the nWo stuff, there may be a "bad" ending to the last match of the show because someone like Hogan wants to be in the final match AND win.

I personally think it should be Hall over Austin, Jericho over HHH, and Rock over Hogan, but I'm not booking the event and my choices would actually make sense, so they probably won't be used.

EDIT-

When I talk about politics in the nWo stuff, I'm also referring to their opponents.  The Rock may put pressure on Vince for a WM win so it helps The Scorpion King make money (yeah... right.  It'll bomb but not necessarily be Rock's fault.) and Austin has supposedly been pissing and moaning for about two weeks or so.

You wish you had TSN? The problem with TSN is they simulcast way too much with the american channels, such as ESPN, ABC and sometimes Nascar on Fox.

Anyways, I didn't catch the OTR interview, but it will be on tomorrow again i think in a two hour OTR marathon.
