Injury bug bites Triple H again

by Phil Speer

A massive buildup of blood in his left quadriceps kept Triple H from wrestling this weekend and will prevent him from doing so for about three weeks.

The Game missed Friday's non-televised event in Minneapolis due to a hematoma -- a solid ball of coagulated blood -- and appeared, but did not compete, at Saturday's event at Madison Square Garden.

There, the frustration on his face was manifest as he explained over and over his latest injury to the Superstars who approached him backstage.

"It seems like every time something heals, I get something else," the World Heavyweight Champion told WWE.com.

The Game was hoping for better luck in 2003 after an injury-plagued 2002: battling with a fractured kneecap at WrestleMania X8, competing with bone chips in his elbow at King of the Ring, the throat injury at Survivor Series, the hematoma in his right leg that he worked with at Armageddon. That latest injury had finally healed in the last week or two.

"I think I actually told (WWE trainer) Chris (Brennan) at (RAW last Monday in Chicago), 'I think that that thing in my leg is finally gone,'" the Game said.

Sadly ironic, it was that day at RAW that he wrestled in a match that resulted in another hematoma -- this one in his surgically repaired left quadriceps. During the tag team main event with Batista against Rob Van Dam and Kane, the Game hit RVD with a high knee, and RVD's elbow collided with Triple H's left thigh.

"It just felt like a Charley horse," Triple H said.

But when he got back to his hotel room, his leg had swelled dramatically, and he called Brennan.

"By the time Chris got there, I couldn't stand," Triple H said.

By Saturday's event at the Garden, the champion could walk around, but he still only had a few degrees of motion.

"I can't climb stairs," he said. "I can't ride a bike. I can't bend it enough."

That became obvious during the show, when he headed out to the ring to explain to the crowd that he couldn't compete. He struggled mightily to get through the ropes and into the ring. Fans may have assumed that he was pretending. He was not.

Because the show was at the Garden -- considered WWE's home away from home -- Kurt Angle, Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas were brought in as substitutes.

The Game would have liked to compete and had been rehabilitating feverishly since last Monday in an attempt to not miss any dates, but there was simply no way he could wrestle last weekend.

While he does not like missing shows -- especially dates for which he has been advertised -- he also knows that he must take it easy or this relatively minor injury could turn into something major. If the blood in his quad calcifies -- hardens into a bone-like substance -- it would end his career. It's one of the reasons that Boston Bruins great Cam Neely was forced to retire in 1996, Triple H said.

So the Game undergoes rehab twice a day to speed the recovery process -- he hopes to be able to wrestle again in three weeks - and he takes an anti-inflammatory designed to prevent calcifying.

Triple H visited doctors last week and underwent blood tests to try to determine the cause of these hematomas. After all, one developed in his right leg last December after a RAW match against Jeff Hardy. He also had one on his left shoulder after Vince McMahon hit him with a pipe during their match at Armageddon in 1999.

"(Doctors) can't find anything," he said, referring to his blood tests.

They told him that some hockey players -- who, like wrestlers, often suffer traumatic contact with certain muscles -- often develop hematomas, while others never do.

"Unfortunately," Triple H said, "I seem to be susceptible."

And this is RVD's fault...how?

Oh, right. In WWE LOGIC, how can I forget.

That's it. I'm starting a petition to get RVD fired from WWE so he doesn't have to be subjected to this anymore.

And I'm changing HHH's name from "The Office" to "The Tomato" because he bruises so FUCKING EASILY

Well, I am not so certain how serious this is but It looks like just another two week injury for the game...RVD oughta just give him one good swift kick...they can't punish him anymore then he already been...

RVD can't help injuring the ONLY person with backstage clout...can he?

Yeah I noticed on the last big house show tour (Including NYC with a bigger pay day than normal) RVD went from the main event before the intermission to third match on the card against D-Lo Brown.

Now I know why.

Well they probably didn't use a sample of his own actual blood.

Yeah...they probably poked Jericho with a needle and drew his just to be funny.

The HHH checklist:

1. Get injured by RVD.....Check

2. Bury RVD so he either doesn't compete on ppv for the first time since joining the company/or demote him on house shows to hurt him in the wallett....Check

3. Poke Jericho with a needle out of need to prove dominance.....Check.

Nidia's fat. Nova's hair is long. And now Triple H blows a spot, and RVD is the scapegoat.

I can almost understand the fear of losing your spot to a new/more popular/better worker. I don't agree with it, but that is the political game in any industry. But this FUCKING NITPICKING by Crips and the Two Tit Power Trip has got to cease.

What happened to the days of Undertaker threatening violence on those who didn't go along with the plan. Oh yeah, he became as bad as them...

Poor RVD. He probably won't make Wrestlemania at this rate.

Why doesn't HHH let all these injuries heel, not immediately try to rush back when he's not ready.

Some one could be taking his spot in the meantime.

And where in this article did anyone say a bad thing about RVD? Oh thats right... NO WHERE. They just mentioned that it happened during a moment where Triple H threw a knee and it connected with RVD's elbow. That happens all the time.

Anyway, Triple H will probably have tor retire soon after all of these injuries, which is a bad thing but it happens.

I was about to post that reason, using the Austin line about how he took a year off for his neck and when he returned "Someone" had Vince's ear and everything was different and shitty.

But as long as he is with Steph his spot is protected.

I think he's afraid of 2 things:

1. Austin's return will bump ratings and if HHH isn't there he will be completely exposed.

2. HHH goes away, and even worse, someone else gets pushed and ratings increase...exposing HHH even worse.

speaking off the 2 man powertrip..

how the hell did Austin agree to/not walk out in defiance of this whole thing?

They had heel Austin vs face HHH all set for Summerslam (before the quad of corse) AND Austin had like zero time to bask in his return to heeldom and really milk it

HHH should have wanted it too becasue that night after WMX7 was the night for him to turn face

they still could have got the Canadian Violence Connection involved too

Benoit with Austin as a heel (I always thought they would make a sweet combination) and then Jericho with HHH

HHH won't be retiring any time. As long has he's dating Stephanie, and has Vince's ear, he'll stck around into his 40's.

Steph cheated on her then-boyfriend to be with Roid-Boy. She's not exactly loyal and moral. He might take a few weeks off and finds out she's lusting over Booker T or sharing a joint with RVD.

Ok, so we've been hearing backstage buzz about how the business is being too exposed by programs like Tough Enough and Confidential. I think that's oversimplifying the case, but if WWE believes it, why are they issuing these reports about brave HHH and his trials and tribulations in the selfless effort to keep us entertained? He's a HEEL. We're supposed to hate him.

Then again, heels are also supposed to lose feuds eventually...

Heres a Worst case scereo for us HHHaters out there....

what if the ultimate gain in all this is that HHH gets full control of the company when Vince retires??

With Shane and Steph as Figure heads and HHH is the creative thinker behind all angles/

almost like the nWo members creative control in WCW>

If anyone else was as injury prone as HGH, they'd never be made World Champion, and given such a superpush. Oh the benefits of just happening to fall for the bosses daughter, who happens to be head writer.

True, but the last Kliq members are on their last legs--literally with Nash and Trips and figuratively with HBK. Vince would likely try to find Steph a hoity-toity snob to try to pair her up with, and try his damndest to break them up.

And if HHH would become in charge, he can't really push his friends for that much longer, and he's HAVE to push the right people for business.

Or WWE'll will keep droppng in worth as surely as it would in Steph or Vince's hands.

Like Goodear said, where does it say ANYTHING negative about RVD? His name in mentioned in ONE paragraph, and all it does it say what happened and how HHH got hurt.

HHH doesn't say (anywhere in that article, at least) that it's all RVD's fault and that RVD should learn to work better, or anything like that.

Quit reading so much into stuff. Some of you people are so obsessed with finding things to blame HHH for, you'll take anything.
