I always thought Marlon Wayans was terrible.

But he was SO GOOD in Requiem for a Dream. I couldn't beleive it.

I second the Marlon Wayans vote.

Also Jennifer Anniston's performance in The Good Girl surpised me.

I was going to say Marlon Wayans too.

It's not that i thought he was a terrible actor because all i had ever seen him do was comedy. I did however find him to be the least talented Wayans family member and an overall unfunny bastard. So when he turned in a great dramatic performance I was totally shocked.

I was shocked like f'n hell at Jim Carey in Man On the Moon, The Truman Show, and The Majestic (especially this one). As far as I'm concerned, he's proven he is a true actor, so much above his comedy tripe which made him popular.

I haven't seen it, but all the critic's say that Adam Sandler in Punch-Drunk Love is just so weird and awesome.

I second Halle Berry in Monster's Ball.

Also, Ben Affleck is usually terrible but he was good in Changing Lanes.

Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas. He is the worst actor in the world, and I'm not forgetting Keanu.

I second both Marky Mark in Boogie Nights and Marlon Wayans in Requiem...

My pick is Lisa Kudrow in The Opposite of Sex. Who knew one of the evil six from Friends could turn in such a great performance? I've also heard that Aniston's The Good Girl stint was surprisingly good, but I'll have to see it to believe it.

Liv Tyler in LOTR comes to mind. She's usually SO bad, a female version of Keanu Reeves, but somehow she came off as poised and understated here.

Billy Crystal in Hamlet. I don't know exactly what sort of sexual services Mr. Crystal performed for Satan in order to turn in such an awesome Shakespearian performance, but they must've been realdirty.

Catherine Zeta-Jones in Traffic. Who knew she had it in her?

It's probably because she doesn't really have a whole lot of screen time, so her weaknesses aren't as exposed...

The same can be said with Lopez in Out of Sight. She's used just enough so that you don't get tired of her and see through the holes in her craft.

Marlon Waynes in RFOD.

Nic Cage in The Family Man.

Ryan Phillipe in Igby Goes Down. Rent this film if you haven't seen it yet. One of the most well written flicks I've seen in a long time.

Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love was the shit.

I don't even think Marlon Wayans was in Requiem for a Dream until somebody said something.

I don't think Adam Sandler in Punch Drunk Love did anything he didn't normally do. It's just that in the context of the way the movie was written, it just seemed more meaningful.

at the time I couldn't stand Brad Pitt, but loved him in Se7en, and have since liked him in Kalifornia and Fight Club.

I hate Nick Cage, but like him in Bringing Out the Dead

Steven Baldwin in Usual Suspects
