Guest hardyz1 Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 A little background for you: Four years ago Cablevision came into town and gave us a decent channel lineup. My mom owns a store that just happens to have a pretty bug garage. They came to an agreement that the cable guys could store their stuff in the garage. In exchange, they put a special device in our outside box that gave us HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, and The Movie Channel free (without higher authorization, of course). Fast forward to today. I find out that we our cable is going digital, complete with more channels, music channels, Pay Per View (finally) and that good stuff. So here's my question: Do they have to come to our house and do anything to implement digital cable? Or do they just give us the cable box? I don't want to get fucked over because we're getting the premium channels free. Thanks. Move this if you think that would be appropriate.
Guest Lethargic Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 For us it was just a switch of the box. Yes, they brought it and set it up but they didn't do anything outside. Wiring is still the same. Thought it still might not work once they switch it. It could be something out there that only works with analog signals and will be useless with digital signals.

Hmmm, I'll probably do that. I need my HBO and Showtime (if only for Bill Maher and Penn & Teller respectively).

Unlike analog cable, digital cable (at least around here) is IP address-based, which is how access to premium channels is determined. It'd probably be best to talk to the fellows who hooked you up in the first place.
