Guest What? Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 The Strokes are cunts.... Actually, I like them....but Rancid is better than everything in the shit pile, we can agree on that, right IDRM?
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 Yes, we can agree on that.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 I actually like Sum41. Really fucking weird to hear that coming from ME, eh? Maybe I just like them because they dig Slayer and Maiden... Anyways, do a horrible cover of "Freebird"...
Guest What? Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 No! A horrible cover of a horrible song! That makes them sound shittier... Never, ever taint Freebird, Corey!
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 Wow..nothing but cover songs. You guys suck by default.
Guest Matt Young Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 Guys... to be fair, most bands (even famous ones) started out playing covers. Good original songs take a while to develop, and besides, covers are fun to play. Also, cover bands have more gig opportunities than bands that play all originals, at least where I live. I actually like most of your set list, OJ. It'll certainly be interesting going from Wings to Rancid. I didn't think I'd ever encounter anyone willing to play a song that contains the lyrics, "I want to fuck a dog in the ass" in front of people, but it's a funny song, so if you can pull it off, more power to you. I hope all goes well. I've played a few (3) gigs in my lifetime, and although they can be nervewracking, they were very rewardinge experiences. Just remember that everything won't go perfectly, and when/if something does go wrong, as long as you don't draw attention to it, most people won't notice, so don't worry. Enkoy yourself, man. You should have a great time.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 But this is OJ, and he's got a reputation for being the biggest loser on this board, and that includes myself and DJ Jeff in that statement. Thus, we know that 1) he doesn't have a band or 2) if he does, they will suck gigantic hairy balls. I mean, he's already aged three years in six months somehow.

I never really understood why everyone disliked him, but then again, I don't know what he may have done around here in the past. Oh well, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm too happy right now to be negative.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 If people here don't know why everyone hates OJ Hart, we need to bring the thread back. Oh and I'm shocked, SHOCKED I say that this idiot is covering a coldplay song. Says a lot.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Guys... to be fair, most bands (even famous ones) started out playing covers. Good original songs take a while to develop, and besides, covers are fun to play. Also, cover bands have more gig opportunities than bands that play all originals, at least where I live. Doing a couple covers is fine, but to do NOTHING BUT?? All that shows is a complete lack of originality. Even bar bands have an original or two.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Yeah, a couple of covers is a good idea (except those FUCKS who murdered 'there is a light that never goes out' opening for AFI and set the tone for my miserable evening) but if you're playing gigs rather than just messing around with friends, you're gonna need to get some of you own material. Practice with covers, then try some of your own stuff, then think about gigs.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Also, when doing covers, I'd pick something relatively obscure, or at least something bands don't normally cover, for instance, don't do Stairway to Heaven or Smells Like Teen Spirit. Opt for something like...I don't know.. Chemical Warfare, by the Dead Kennedys.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Yeah, just DON'T FUCKING COVER A SMITHS SONG BECAUSE YOU CAN'T. Okay?
