Guest Sturgis Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 I just saw this bullshit on Channel 1 today and they talking on how SUV's support terrorism because of they use more gas and now they are making commerials with people talking about how they supported terrorism(just like those pot commercials where kids say: "I helped kill policemen" etc.) Is country getting dumber or paranoid? Thoughts?
Guest Tyler McClelland Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 This might just be the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard. - TM
Guest Sandman9000 Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 2 to 1 we're going to get to the point where if we don't spy on what our neighbors are doing, we're not doing our part to fight terrorism. "I failed to plant a homing device on the funny looking man down the street. By failing to do my part, the entire city of Denver was destroyed."
Guest SP-1 Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 I guess my 1993 GMC Jimmy being well kept means that I am supporting terrorism. If they're basing this on gas consumption, then so do people that own sports cars, so do the truck drivers and airplane pilots that work tirelessly to deliver goods across the country and the barge captains and air pilots that transport goods globally. Please. That's a weak argument that attempts to put regular people on a guilt trip for the failures of the people that are paid and ordered to keep them safe.
Guest KoR Fungus Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 I haven't seen that commercial yet, but I'd heard about it, and it sounded to me like it was making fun of those retarded anti-drug commercials as much as anything else. Hey, if you want make an anti-SUV commercial and make fun of the war on drugs at the same time, you've got my approval.
Guest LooseCannon Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 Yeah, I certainly don't think it's any stupider than saying buying drugs supports terrorism.
Guest NoCalMike Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 The worst one EVER is the one with the lady at the desk and the little girl keeps appearing saying, "you killed me" Telling her buying "drugs" funds the men who do these terrorist acts. I am wondering, wow, they must have had to sell A LOT of drugs to buy an airplane ticket. How retarded. Also I hate when they just use the "drugs" tag, rather than talk about which drugs they are talking about. Maybe it is a slick way to try to scare kids from smoking POT, but it definately aint working.
Guest McLeary Posted February 5, 2003 Report Posted February 5, 2003 The lamest part of the anti-drug ads is that even if they were completely right on to suggest that buying illegal drugs supports terrorism, etc., etc., the other side of the argument can just say, "well that wouldn't be a problem if drugs were legalized." I happen to be a very anti-drug guy, but those ads are trying to discourage drug use by preying on guilt and fear with the use of defeatist logic and outright lies. The SUV thing is also a weak argument. Okay, driving an SUV supports terrorism, so if you choose to drive another, smaller car will I no longer be supporting terrorism. Well... no, you'll still be supporting terrorism, just less so...depending on much you drive. Or you could opt for the hybrid electric car, then you'll only be supporting terrorism when you're goin uphill. That doesn't make me want to not drive an SUV, that just makes me wanna see to it that we cut off the Arabs by seeking our energy sources in every other way possible. I don't drive an SUV, but I'm not anti-SUV, and if you've got a problem with them, there's literally dozens of superior arguments against them than that weak shit. So,I guess what I'm trying to say is, I think they both suck.
Guest Flyboy Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 I'm not the only one who gets Channel One at his sch00l?!
Guest cobainwasmurdered Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 The anti-drug comercials are stupid because I'm pretty sure that Bob the dealer down the street isn't a member of a terrorist group. But you can never tell, he IS from Manitoba.
Guest DrTom Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 SUVs are rolling deathtraps and have gotten the benefit of Congressional myopia, but to say owners of SUVs support terrorism is stupid. I hope that was a parody ad. Besides, anyone who wants to can find a list of gas/oil companies that do not buy from any of the countries in the Middle East. If you're concerned about not supporting terrorism, there you go.

If you're concerned about not supporting terrorism, there you go. Looks like someone did it for us: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/oilterrorism.htm Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil: Citgo 0 barrels Sunoco 0 Conoco 0 Sinclair 0 BP/Phillips 0
Guest RobJohnstone Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 I think I will be buying my gas from sunoco and bp from now on. If only to do my part in getting our interests out of the middle east. --Rob
Guest RobJohnstone Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 why? a dealership I repo stuff for uses bp. what's wrong with it? --Rob
Guest Mad Dog Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 Something in their gas is supposed to be really hard on your feul lines.
Guest RobJohnstone Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 I never heard that, I do not see how theirs could be that much different. --Rob
Guest LooseCannon Posted February 6, 2003 Report Posted February 6, 2003 I've heard the same thing about bp. I'm not sure if it really matters or not though.
