RB Clarence Williams, Buffalo 33. WR Freddie Solomon, Philadelphia 34. S Brandon Sanders, N.Y. Giants 35. DT Mike Thompson, Cincinnati 36. RB Jerris McPhail, Detroit 37. CB Antonio Langham, San Francisco and the people that the Browns passed on.. Alex Van Pelt, QB (career backup, Buffalo) Daryl Johnston, FB (granted, Johnston caught one pass in 1999 and retired) Neil Smith, DE (d'oh!) Todd Bouman, QB/Jay Fiedler, QB (One is threatening to be a starter if he gets the shot, the other plays for Miami now) Qadry Ismail, WR (gee.. he couldn't possibly be good in 1999 *snicker*) and the ultimate blunder in drafting.. they passed on the Rams offering of Kurt Warner. Remember this Browns fans, your organization picked Scott Milanovich (a QB that hasn't done jackshit ever) over Kurt Warner. Smooth move guys. As I go though the Texans draft (here: http://www.jt-sw.com/football/pro/index.ns.../2002-draft-exp ), at least they didn't pick Romo.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted February 5, 2003 I wouldnt say that passing on Warner was a blunder because there was no clue he was going to do what he did.
Guest cartman Report post Posted February 5, 2003 Not to mention the fact that Warner sure as hell wouldnt have won 2 MVP's in cleveland without the supporting cast he had in St. Louis
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted February 5, 2003 I'd say Warner would have made for a better backup than Milanovich.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 6, 2003 In Hindsight we naturally assume so...But in 1999 either of them were any different.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted February 6, 2003 Kurt Warner would have been paralyzed from the shots he would've taken from 1999 - to uhhh the present day.
Guest imajackoff? Report post Posted February 6, 2003 They had all those choices in the expansion draft PLUS the first pick in the NFL draft where the selected the mediocre Tim Couch. They did squeak into the playoffs with a 9-7 record last season which was their 4th year. With all the concessions given them, they should have been a much bigger player in the super bowl chase. Both Jacksonville and Carolina appeared in their conference championship games in their 2nd year.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 6, 2003 They each had good coaching their first two season...Palmer was a horrible coach...
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 6, 2003 The Browns drafted players who didn't have big salaries, and build a team through the draft and free agency. Expansion Drafts are pretty worthless. The Texans are the firs to actually draft some Pro-Bowl caliber players.

What Rob E is saying is that they should have know about the paper bag guy Kurt wanrer when he was nothing. Who can call that. Any way the browns will be a team in the hunt for the next few years with this cast. Butch Davis is an excellent coach. --Rob
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 6, 2003 I understand, I just wanted to make a point about the draft in general.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 6, 2003 The overall pool of players in that expansion draft was terrible. The "good players" that you listed were all expensive old guys that we would've paid for nothing. We weren't going anywhere for at least two years and would've made no sense to sign high priced mediocre vets.
Guest RepoMan Report post Posted February 7, 2003 No blunder passing up Van Plet. It's a decent backup, but Holcomb is light years ahead of him.
Guest tank_abbott Report post Posted February 7, 2003 I think Reggie White and Deion Sanders were both on the Expansion Pick List... And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Lions put Barry Sanders on it, due to him "retiring"...I'm probably thinking of something else
