Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 6, 2003 Did Colin Powell's speech at the U.N. sway any fence sitters? If so why, and if not why.
Guest cobainwasmurdered Report post Posted February 9, 2003 It didn't sway me. Partly I have to admit my anti-Bush administration stance and partly because I really found the evidence unconvincing. And so it seems did France and German.
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted February 10, 2003 From what I saw (which, admittedly, was the first hour of the presentation), the evidence was very open ended and could be interpreted a number of ways. A lot of it was circumstantial and could be refuted easily, but of course... that's why we said beforehand "The burden of proof is on them!" We're going to war no matter what, though. Guest EricMM Report post Posted February 10, 2003 But honestly, y'all, it doesn't sound like either one of you were exactly sitting on the fence. Per se... I mean are you truly neutral about the war or Bush?
Guest Tyler McClelland Report post Posted February 10, 2003 I don't really think anyone can be sitting on the fence when it comes to war. You're either with it or against it, it's too big an issue to be neutral. I'm always anti-war, but I was hoping Powell would provide us with a distinct message that would indict the Iraqi regime. What he put forth was a large amount of hearsay, in my opinion. It really doesn't matter, though. We're going to war whether he convinced the UN or not. I think it's time for the polls to change the question. Do you support use of Force with U.N. approval. Too Do you support use of force if almost every country in Europe is on board. Guest MD2020 Report post Posted February 10, 2003 With U.N. approval, I support the war. With almost every other European country, except France and Germany, I would support the war. Germany not being involved is a plus in my book. Bad things seem to happen when they're involved. France--don't care either way. If they are with us, great, if not, whatever. If it's just us and UK, I'd be a lot more nervous about the war.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 10, 2003 After his speech, I was watching C-Span to see how other countries reacted to Powell's speech. I was laughing nonstop when they showed the French newscast. One thing I've noticed is that all the media people saying that speech was nothing never mention the wire intercepts. I wonder if those people that were caught on the phone are still alive today...
Guest Danny Dubya v 2.0 Report post Posted February 10, 2003 If this whole situation eventually leads up to a world war between the US and European nations that get disgusted with the use of our military power, or the entire middle east and its terrorist networks make their biggest move against the west... can at least one of you say I predicted it here? It's not likely to happen... but WWI was expected initially to be a very short conflict that would start and end in eastern europe. Things are way different now... possibly much worse. I'm not arguing its possibility of course... I just hope someone says I said it'd happen if it does.
