JasonX Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I'm sorry but I just can't stand the current direction of Kurt Angle. He's too angry in his promos and is trying too hard at being threatening and evil to the point that he is no longer interesting to watch... Kurt is at his best when he's playing an arrogant goofball heel who's happens to be able to get the job done in the ring despite his airhead personality and is booked in a manner that had Kurt not taking himself seriously. New evil Kurt has zero charisma, totally unrelatable, and is horribly overcompensating by being a super-dick.....
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 No way I like this angry Kurt. He does it well.
Guest Lord of The Curry Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Yeah, because, ya know, goofballs who cry like a baby and are made to look like pussies really draw. New Angle is good Angle. For the first time in his career he's being made to look like a serious threat and not being taken like a fucking joke. How you can hate that is beyond me.....
JasonX Posted February 7, 2003 Author Report Posted February 7, 2003 No way I like this angry Kurt. He does it well. Evil angry Kurt has zero charisma. If they had given us a good storyline towards why Kurt would embrace the darkside completely and totally ala HHH when he went from dick-jock telling frat-boy to the evil cerebral assassin "The Game" (like having Kurt beat Edge into a coma and declare that he was tired of being treated as a joke) it would be slightly more tolerable. But nothing was given to justify Kurt's change. And as a result angry, evil Kurt is failing so miserably that it's horrible to watch....
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I fail to see how he has no charisma. His pep talks to Team Angle are great. And when he was choking Benoit with the crutch and yelling at him was great.
Guest HartFan86 Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Angle right now is the most credible he's been in his carrer cause he's a BADASS. Just because he's not funny anymore doesn't mean he sucks. He can play a seriously role very well, as you see right now.
Guest Anglesault Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Kurt is at his best when he's playing an arrogant goofball heel who's happens to be able to get the job done in the ring despite his airhead personality and is booked in a manner that had Kurt not taking himself seriously. New evil Kurt has zero charisma, totally unrelatable, and is horribly overcompensating by being a super-dick..... So you want him to be his midcard character. Stupid Angle has no business in the mains anyway. Or something.
Guest tpww7 Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Angle and Brock are both being built well right now, I can't wait for Mania.
Guest Choken One Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Wow...Ya went easy on JasonX AS.
Guest Banky Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Angle and Brock are both being built well right now, I can't wait for Mania. Nope, with Cena starting a feud with lesnar, they'll fight at WM. It'll be Benoit/Angle for the Title. muaha
Guest Choken One Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I wouldn't mind that...if I didn't find Angle/Benoit bordering Sting/Vader levels here of repetiveness...Keep them seperated until the summer...They got a built in storyline they can resort to at anytime...
Guest Anglesault Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Angle and Brock are both being built well right now, I can't wait for Mania. Angle as a heel is being built well. But he isn't someone that can beat Brock. At this point, no one can beat Brock. The man is invincible

Stupid Angle has no business in the mains anyway. Or something. 1. I want Angle in the main event scene 2. I like how Angle's midcard character was relatable and showcased Angle's charisma. 3. I don't like the fact that Angle's new main event character consists of him being all angry and evil with no real relatability or charisma being shown. He's boring and I want to see Angle given some personality and not be playing a stereotypical evil wrestler who's only characteristic is that he's evil and angry and nothing else..... To make a comic comparision: Old Angle= Magneto, as fleshed out and made human by Chris Claremont who's motive for taking over the world (to spare mutantkind from undergoing the horror that Magneto endured during the Holocaust) was relatable and gave him depth and charisma. New Angle= Magneto as portrayed by Stan Lee Jack Kirby, a one-dimensional evil tyrant who spent his days trying to take over the world because Magneto felt mutants are superior to humans....
Guest Choken One Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 They did the same with Hogan/Andre...Look what THAT did.
Guest Austin3164life Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I wouldn't be too surprised if Angle retained the title at Wrestlemania. It seems too obvious that Brock is going to win, unless Angle really starts gaining the upper-hand after No Way Out, which I think will happen. BTW, tonight's Main Event was the first match I saw since August, and I'm glad I tuned in.
Guest Anglesault Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 BUT Moron idiot useless goofball who never knows what the hell is going on and does everything wrong WILL NOT fly in the mains.
Guest Anglesault Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 No it didn't. Foley spent most of his time in midcard feuds until he was Psychotic Cactus Jack at the end of his career. Like Angle, the character worked for certain feuds with main eventers for like two or three months at a time, but then it was right back to the midcard.
Guest RugbyDiva Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I think Kurt's great at both roles. The goofy heel and the angry, protective, serious Champ. Either way, Kurt Angle is Kurt Angle. Gotta respect and *for me* love him either way! At least that's how I feel. -Lis'

But one is very clearly a midcard personality. I'm refering to the 1998 year as he had no clue what was going on... yeah, but it didn't stick.
Guest Choken One Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 It went on for about 16 months and it drew well...It was just one aspect of the evoultion of his character...same with Angle here. The difference personalties of Angle only showcase his versiality.
Guest Anglesault Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Wait wait. Let's make a starting point here. Say, Late October? From October to March 1999, he was a main event man. April/May, upper midcard. May-August, Injured. August-September-Main October-Early January-All the way in the fucking midcard. January-March, Main. More or less like Angle usually is. The "idiot" character just can't stand constant time in the mains.
Guest Brian Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 But Foley also had an incredibly amazing background as being psychotic, going to all lengths, and taking amounts of pain that a normal human, even other wrestlers couldn't fathom. He was built on a rep and figured out a way as a face to connect with the fans, as someone who was screwed by his boss and really relatable to the crowd and funny. It's different than Angle who's trying to make it as a heel, which is a different realm.
Guest JMA Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I liked it when Angle was actually able to mention he had a wife on TV. Can heels not be married and in love? That whole "my wife is my belt" thing wasn't too good, IMO. But this is all beside the point. Angle is one of the best (if not THE best) in the WWE. He deserves only good things.
Guest NoCalMike Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Angle is gifted, and he can pull off EITHER character in the main event role. I felt his LOWEST was when he used to use that toupee thing. When he took it off without shame, I felt his character took a step in the right direction. He has a bright future and it is kind of a shame is being wasted on Lesnar at WM. Yah Lesnar doesn't suck too bad, but he is NOWHERE NEAR the level that WWE probably would have hoped for by now. Hell, no one seems to care about him ever since he turned face because quite frankly, he has ZERO charisma or character. Just a hoss that is angry.....ok my bad, I turned this into a Lesnar discussion.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I think this should just be another dimensio nto his character, they don't need to jettison any other aspect of his personality really. He's always had that goofball heel thing going on in his promos, but it never translates to his matches, where he is INTENSE. In the non-sarcastic way. It's always worked, and I don't see how you can relate it to the way he's been booked.
Guest Goodear Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 I think last night was the most serious I have seen Kurt be during his WWE stint and it worked extremely well. Interupting one of Benoit's 'I give my life for wrestling' promos could have been totally goofy and wacky, but Angle pulled off the serious 'This belt is my life' promo seriously and well. I think the key to doing that sort of thing with Kurt is to have him do it backstage away from the fans and the 'You Suck' chants. It allows Kurt to focus a lot more on his opponents and pull a better delivery for serious character moments.
Guest Anglesault Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Angle is gifted, and he can pull off EITHER character in the main event role. If that were true, he's be a main eventer before the Rumble. The "moron idiot who can't do anything right and is an absolute and total loser" does not work in the mains. It Bombed with Jericho. It bombed with Angle before!
Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Posted February 7, 2003 Report Posted February 7, 2003 Angle is finally being used properly i just wish that Vince would let him win at Mania, the only thing i don't like about Angle is the fact that he rarely works on his opponent's leg before he uses the Anklelock, but that's me being nitpicky.
