Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Tribute to the XFL Among other things, theres a 20 question Quiz. I got 17 right (missed 10,11 and 18) Theres also some pretty funny articles, including one funny story about a scenario where Bill Gates spends 100 million and saved the XFL in an alternate reality or something. Guest Kingpk Report post Posted February 8, 2003 I got 16 out of 20 right, including all the X-Pert questions. I don't know whether to be happy or sad.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 8, 2003 PERFECT SCORE!!! WHO-HOO!!! Although I guessed at #18 because I didn't know Cortez also played on the Redskins -- I narrowed that pick down between them and the Vikings (I didn't know Yo Murph was an XFL-alum, I thought TE Josh Wilcox went to St. Louis). I also guessed at the best attendance question, but since it seemed San Fran. had the best fans I went with them (didn't know NY/NJ was second though -- I would have went with Orlando). From what I remember, I think the one season-ending kickoff/mad scramble injury came on opening night. It wasn't the national game, but the other one in Orlando. Also, #15 is wrong. Boz was a color commentator, but so was Butkus for the "B" national game after Lawler quit. SHAME SHAME SHAME ON FOX SPORTS! You know, everyone ragged on the XFL, but I stuck with it through the 10 weeks and 2 postseason games televised. I caught hell for it, sure, but f*ck 'em. Were there times I was embarrassed for watching? Yep. But it gave a bunch of guys a second chance at playing a sport they loved. Besides, there's worse crap out there now. *CoughcoughBachlorcoughcough* BTW: Sports talk host JT the Brick had an interesting article regarding media coverage for the XFL. If I can find it I'll post it...
Guest Sassquatch Report post Posted February 8, 2003 17 out of 20. I feel dirty now.
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted February 8, 2003 I got 18 on that quiz. I thought I'd get a 20, but I had to guess on 2 of them.
Guest CanadianChris Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Good God, I got them all. Apparently the electroshock treatments didn't take.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 8, 2003 LOL -- I sent an e-mail to the guy who made that quiz telling him about the Butkus error -- he said he's going to change the question...
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted February 9, 2003 (sniffle) I loved the XFL, and had zero regrets about any of it. A guy I know has an XFL football. I plan to steal it one day.
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted February 9, 2003 I agree with kkk completely. I just wish I had some games on tape. I got 18 on the quiz. I missed one of the nicknames and the Butkus/Bosworth error that kkk pointed out. :::reminiscing:::
Guest treble charged Report post Posted February 9, 2003 I actually have the opening night XFL game on tape. I never watch it, but I have it. I never really watched it much after the first week, as it went head to head with Hockey Night in Canada.
Guest Bricks Report post Posted February 9, 2003 Bah, would've been perfect if it wasn't for #6.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 9, 2003 Just being nebby here -- since we're taking a trip down memory lane -- what were some highlights during the season for you guys? * I guess my favorite team was the LV Outlaws, although they folded like tents down the stretch. * My favorite game was when Chicago won their first game at home against the Outlaws -- there was decent action and you could tell the Enforcers wanted to win that one. * I wish the playoff games would have been more exciting -- seeing San Fran get crushed by LA two out of three weeks was tedious to watch. * He may not have had a stellar NFL career, but I always pulled for Jose Cortez. When he was on he was a really solid kicker. I remember in Week 2 he shanked a short field goal and Tommy Maddox was throwing a fit on the sideline. For the rest of the season, Cortez made some big kicks -- including a few 50-yarders, if memory serves me correct. * I really wish they wouldn't have marketed the XFL as a league "tougher than the NFL." That was just begging for punishment. I think they might have been more successful pimping the incentive-laced games, where the winners get more money than the losers, and the fact the players were busting their butts to make the games entertaining and fan friendly. Guest treble charged Report post Posted February 9, 2003 The Rusty Tillman/Jesse Ventura thing was kind of funny, if just because it showed how desperate they were for fan attention, and it made Ventura look like a jackass, because Tillman couldn'y have cared less. Also, when they said they were going to go into the cheerleaders locker room, only to have the camera man knocked out, followed by his fantasy. It may have been cheesy and stupid, but I found it kind of humourous.
Guest ISportsFan Report post Posted February 9, 2003 My favorite game was the 39-32 2OT Enforcers v. Xtreme (Chicago v. LA) game in Week 2. I still have it on tape, and it was absolutely unbeievable and exciting. NBC hated it, but I loved it. Plus, it featured a hit in the end zone after a touchdown catch that was one of the hardest hits and deadliest hits I've ever seen. Jason
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted February 9, 2003 What everybody else said... The QB (Jay Barker maybe?) who got a concussion and didn't know where he was on the sideline. The obvious improvement in game quality showed between the two Chicago/New York games. The game saving interception made by Jamie Beasly (sp?) in that second Chicago/NY game. Mike Adamle being a kickass analyst. Memphis beating LA twice in the regular season. The X Spot. The D lineman jumping way offside in the first game. The fact that Tommy Maddox was the only QB to start all of his team's games. Wondering what if Jeff Brohm hadn't been injured. Orlando beating Las Vegas in a great game, then Conan O'Brien mentioning the score on SNL that night. Man, I really need some tapes.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 10, 2003 (sniffle) I loved the XFL, and had zero regrets about any of it. A guy I know has an XFL football. I plan to steal it one day. I think it's no worse than the CFL or AFL.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted February 10, 2003 I remember in Week 2 he shanked a short field goal and Tommy Maddox was throwing a fit on the sideline "If he can't make 'em we shouldn't be kicking!" The XFL did have some innovations with cameras and presentation that are still around today. They were the first league with the over the field cam.
Guest Bricks Report post Posted February 10, 2003 The thing I remember most about the XFL is Rodney Dangerfield in a towel. Then afterwards, Jesse said "Well, you they say whatever Vince McMahon touches turns into..."
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 10, 2003 Ah, the subliminal message as to how the XFL got no respect -- that was when I knew this league wasn't coming back...
Guest JangoFett4Hire Report post Posted February 12, 2003 Orlando beating Las Vegas in a great game, then Conan O'Brien mentioning the score on SNL that night. didn't Lorne Michaels bitch about SNL starting late because of XFL games running long?
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Report post Posted February 12, 2003 Yep. Especially since Week 2 was the night J-Lo was to perform, and that was the double-overtime game that took a while to finish...
