Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Apparently the WWE is still trying to acquire the rights Extreme Championship Wrestling from the bankruptcy trustee. What the WWE is looking to buy of ECW's is: * ECW's intellectual properties, including wrestler names, likenesses, photographs, video library (not the actual tapes, but the rights to use the footage). Also included are the names that Extreme Championship Wrestling and Paul Heyman owned. This could open up the WWE to owning wrestler and tag teams names that ECW has trademarked or copy-wrote. This could smell trouble for wrestlers who are not in the WWE using their ECW names. * Anything ECW had in the past and the future, claim wise. * The American Cable Productions own the ECW tapes, and their tapes would be apart of the sale. This would cost the WWE $243,000 for these tapes, paid to the ACP. The WWE would have to make payments and settle some of the past ECW bankruptcy problems, including: * $31,808.05 claim of Advanced Transportation Services. * Attorney's fees in the litigation with InDemand over unpaid receivables from the pay-per-views. * Minimum purchase price ($1.28 million) * Any sales taxes or transfer fees that result from the sale of ECW. Break down of what the WWE would be paying from Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW): * $1.28 million - minimum purchase price * $31,808.05 - Advanced Transportation claim * $50, 000.00 - Trustee's attorney fees for InDemand litigation * Undetermined sales taxes for the purchase/sale The minimum as of now that the WWE would be paying for ECW would be $1,361,808.05, which does not include many of the fees. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ So guys like Raven, Awesome, Credible, etc, might have to change their names. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted February 8, 2003 If Vince is stupid enough to pay what he did on the Elimination Chamber then you'd think he'd be smart enough to pick this up. It's by far the better investment.
JasonX 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2003 So guys like Raven, Awesome, Credible, etc, might have to change their names. Both Awesome and Raven own their respective ECW characters lock-stock-and barrel so Vince buying ECW up won't fuck them over.

Guest Dr. Wrestlingphysics Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Yeah, Raven and Awesome had those names in WCW as well, so they wouldn' thave any hassle about having to change their ring-names.
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Bout damn time. And if he makes an all wrestling channel, I'd better fucking get it, cause I don't want to miss out on more than I already have to (NWA and Smackdown!)
Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted February 8, 2003 I can't see Vince ever making an All Day Wrestling Channel. He probably wouldn't make that much money off it. We'll just end up getting those shitty 1/2 Hour Fanatic PPV's.
Guest wwF1587 Report post Posted February 8, 2003 all day wrestling channel would be soo damn tight.. come on vince.. PLEASE!!!.. id better save my money for tapes if that happens... wait .. Guest FeArHaVoC Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Hey, an other Question. When Vince finally owns ECW, will RF Video have to Stop selling all their tapes with ECW Footage?
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Hey, an other Question. When Vince finally owns ECW, will RF Video have to Stop selling all their tapes with ECW Footage? Not unless Vince knows about it...they stack older WWF and WCW footage onto some of their tapes. He's a blatant copyright violator.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Not unless Vince knows about it...they stack older WWF and WCW footage onto some of their tapes. He's a blatant copyright violator. He'll probably find out and buy ROH too. All wrestling channel would be cool. He's got all the old WCW, ECW, and WWF footage. The funniest part is that he would have the most legal trouble playing WWF footage. How ironic.

Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Now Vince McMahon can alter history on a whole new level. "The WWF made ECW when they teamed up in 1997 to help promote the Barely Legal PPV and allowed ECW wrestlers to appear on RAW." Ah well, can't wait for the DVDs. Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted February 8, 2003 It will be interesting to see what they put in the DVDs and what they don't put in the DVDs. If they have the right person organizing it, then wrestling fans are in for a treat (think of the Austin DVD they could do - 4 disc set, no doubt.) If they have enough sense, they would start to put together a Benoit DVD, a Guerrero DVD, a Jericho DVD, a Mysterio DVD (rumoured to be true), a Foley DVD (they fn better!), just so they can use footage from all 3 promotions. "The WWF made ECW when they teamed up in 1997 to help promote the Barely Legal PPV and allowed ECW wrestlers to appear on RAW." Ah well, can't wait for the DVDs. You mean like those classic WCW/NWA tapes they released? Oops--the closest they've done to that is Flair/Steamboat on HHH's DVD.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted February 8, 2003 I think WWE will use the same strategy on ECW footage as they do with WCW footage as they would just use it as filler on DVDs that nobody really cares about. Like say if WWE made a DVD out of the recent Asian Tour they would probably put some meaningless match as a extra such as Nova inventing everything then add some thing interesting like Masato Tanaka as ECW Champ or a Tajiri match. Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 8, 2003 and that was only because HHH demanded it... Of course the WCN would be ideal in 2004...It won't happen...Digital Companies won't be excited about this since ESPN classic hasn't done well... Before WWE can do this...they will have to make a neogotaion with WWF to air the WWF footage.
Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted February 8, 2003 Maybe they'll re-release a tape of Flair classics with HHH's head posted on top of Ric's. It honestly wouldn't shock me.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted February 8, 2003 They bought WCW in 2001. Let's say it takes a year to fully integrate WCW's video library and be able to use footage for DVDs and Tapes and such. So really, 2002 is the time where they could use the video library. In 2002 they had: -NWO dvd. -Hogan dvd. -HHH dvd. -Austin dvd. -A whole lot of Confidential pieces ...That featured the use of WCW. That's not bad. Esp. for the WWF. Before, their VHS tapes were like 60 minutes long and were nothing but clip-jobs. Their deal with Sony has opened up the DVD market and it is one of their most successful divisions (it is probably the WWFs only GROWTH market - aside from International Touring) so I think it can only get better from here. LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2003 So Vince is buying the ECW Library so Jim Cornette can burn it??
Guest geniusMoment Report post Posted February 8, 2003 This won't effect most video footage as ECW signed a long term contract with Pioneer Entertainment before they went bankrupt, that deal is still in effect which is why they continue to release stuff. Even if Vince buys ECW that deal will still continue for as long as the contract says.

Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted February 9, 2003 Which wrestler names DOES ECW own? Taz, Rhino, bWo, Triple-Threat, Three-Way Dance, Stairway to Hell, etc. Eh, the reason Taz and Rhino changed their names was because those names were trademarked by Warner Bros. and Marvel Comics, respectively.
