Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted February 9, 2003 I can see right through that! if those cloaks are bright green and all those other colors, everybody's gonna notice you! anyways, these cloaks should be reserved for album covers

Guest MrRant Report post Posted February 9, 2003 The illusion was part of a demonstration of optical camouflage technology at Tokyo University. It is the brainchild of Professor Susumu Tachi who is in the early stage of research he hopes will eventually make camouflaged objects virtually transparent. The photograph was taken through a viewfinder that uses a combination of moving images taken behind the wearer to give a transparent effect. It's hoped the technology will be useful for surgeons frustrated their own hands and surgical tools can block their view of operations and pilots who wish cockpit floors were transparent for landings. Guest J*ingus Report post Posted February 10, 2003 Um, doesn't the following passage seem to suggest that it's all just a trick photograph? The photograph was taken through a viewfinder that uses a combination of moving images taken behind the wearer to give a transparent effect. It just sounds a bit too good to be true, and why aren't any other news agencies reporting on it?
Guest SPwasmurdered Report post Posted February 10, 2003 I think that what it's saying is that the tech is something in the camera. Like how greenscreens can be removed in movies. That pilots and/or doctors can wear the green material and an eyepiece or watch a monitor and not be bothered by their hands/the plane's floorboard getting in the way. Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 11, 2003 It's more like a transparent cloak than an invisible cloak though. I'm confused about how the thing is supposed to work, but the effect is pretty damn cool. Like Rob E pointed out, it should be used on an album cover.
