Seconding Milkman.

Oh yeah, and Depeche Mode's "Strangelove". To quote somebody who I don't remember, listen to that song twice and you'll have a deeper understanding of masochists, listen to it three times, and you'll be one.

Why do I get the feeling I'll be one of very few who post non-metal type songs here...

"Careless Whisper" by WHAM!

"If Wishes Came True" by Sweet Sensation

"All Or Nothing" by O-Town

"I Still Believe" by Brenda K Starr

"After All" by Cher and Peter Cetera

"I Do" by 98 Degrees

This now my favorite thread because it mentioned my favorite stand-up comedian... Stephen Lynch. Anywho, "About a Girl" Nirvana Unplugged, not really a love song- but it melted my last girlfriend right before I asked her out. (Granted we went out for a wee, that's NOT the point).

Ever notice how "Why Don't You Get a Job" is pretty similar to "Ob La Di Ob La Da"?

"Lose" by 311. Great guitar solo.

I like the oldies too, so I like "The Worst That Could Happen" by Brooklyn Bridge.

"The Thin Line Between Love and Hate" as a love song? That's an interesting interpretation. I've never thought of it as such - I've always looked at it as being more of a social commentary then any specific sort of "love" song.

As far as my favourites go...hrm...I suppose Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters" is a decent one, as is Anathema's "Je Fait Un Promesse".

I used love songs more as a little punk than ever before or since, so most of my choices are pop-punk:

Agent Orange: All at Once

Government Issue: Even When You're Here

Dag Nasty: Trouble Is

Dag Nasty: Things That Make No Sense

Descendents: Too many to list, but without at doubt Cheer and Good Good Things have been used to impress the little punk girls.

Wow, Zack was right. Feel all the romantic metalness.

Madonna - Crazy For You

The Beatles - Something

Belinda Carlisle - Heaven Is A Place On Earth

Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U

Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance With Somebody

More romantic metalness:

Type O Negative-the entire October Rust album.

That cd's purpose is to give headbangers something to fuck to.

It'll doubtless be a smiths or Frank Black number, I'll go with 'These things take time' off the top of my head.

Oh man I said that to my firend who likes the Beatles like me and she said "nah I don't hear it". I went crazy cause I couldn't believe she didn't hear the similarities.

I also believe that Razor Ramon's theme rips off that Eagles/Don Henley song "Those Shoes"

"This Must Be the Place"--Talking Heads

Something of a turning point for the band. Heads mastermind David Byrne's favorite subjects were delightful things such as fear and paranoia--which came to a boiling point on the claustrophobic Remain in Light--but their follow-up album, Speaking in Tongues, was significantly less disturbing than any of their previous works, and, on the final track, Byrne finally allows himself to be happy. It's a gorgeous song, one which can stand on its own merits, but is perhaps better appreciated within the context of the band's career.

i'm a beatles freak, so i think it's a tie between 'hey jude' and 'eleanor rigby'. two sides of the same coin, i guess. both beautifully written, and speak to me a LOT personally.

'losing my religion' is also a GREAT love song. the damn video made everybody think it has all these religious, existential meanings, but stipe himself says it's about falling for somebody and not knowing how to let them know. sounds great solo on an acoustic guitar too. one night a year & a half ago, i played the song for one of my best friends to let her know i was falling for her. about 3 hours later, we were making out in the lobby of her dorm room. greatest night of my life.

REM's "Losing My Religion" is a great choice. All the Beatles talk reminded me of "Something".
