Guest Sykotic2002 Report post Posted February 11, 2003 I just saw the commercials tongiht during Raw for the PRIDE FC game and it looks great. I read a while back that they would be coming out with a game, but I didn't even know it was on it's way out. I''m defintally going to get it. Anybody else planning on getting it? Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 11, 2003 It should be in stores February 11th, which would be today. As the pimping in the sig should tell you, I'm getting myself a copy.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 12, 2003 I'm getting it. They told me theyd have it in tomorrow.
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 12, 2003 They told me the same thing even though I was positive today was the release date. I could've sworn that Tuesday was the day for video game releases.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 12, 2003 No that's only for DVDs and CDs and video rentals. Games come out whenever they do. Usually they list the shipping date, which means it will be in the next day.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 12, 2003 In Gamepro it says the gameplay is exactly like UFC. That suck ballz.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 12, 2003 I disagree with that. UFC games all the characters play the same, but just from the demo you can tell the difference between Vovchanchyn and Newton when they are standing (Newton gets wooped) and when they are on the ground (Newton owns)
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 12, 2003 I haven't played the demo unfortunetly. I'll get the game tomorrow regardless, since Pride has a MUCH better roster than UFC games do. EDIT: And gamepro assholes probably don't know a god damn thing about MMA anyways.
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 12, 2003 Well, Anchor Bay, the folks that brought us the original UFC game for the Dreamcast made Pride, so that's why it plays very similar. But the nuances are what differentiates it from its predecessor. As bps pointed out, each fighter is different. They have different strengths and weaknesses that actually need to be recognized by the player. On top of this, each character has an entrance that mimics their real-life counterpart unlike UFC where they just jumped around and punched the air during intros. Since that means a finger rolling, insane looking Vanderlei Silva, I couldn't be happier. In addition to Silva, Pride has two Gracies, Kazushi Sakuraba, Ken Shamrock, and Noguiera among others. However, most importantly, it has Alexander Otsuka...MMA jobbers represent, yo.
LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2003 I got the demo that they advertised as the first 5,000 who take a survey can get. It has four characters, I played it a couple times, generic demo in the fact few characters, one kind of match you can play, but you can see the whole set up. I don't know much about PRIDE, but the demo was fun, I may just get it. Plus, some people I know like Shamrock are on the actual game. The name on the demo I was most familiar with was Frye. I can't think of the other 3 because it is in my room, but they had representative of a few different styles between the four, Frye for wrestling, a kick boxer and some guy with some form of martial arts. I can't remember it all off the top of my head, but it's pretty cool. Definate renter.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 12, 2003 The guys on the demo were Don Frye (of early UFC fame), Carlos Newton (current UFC star), Igor Vovchanchyn (devastating striker from Russia who I think just retired) and Murila "Ninja" Rua (Who I beleive is a member of the Chute Boxe Academy with Wanderlei Silva) There is a good list of fighters in the game for fans of Pride. Legend Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock likely being the biggest appeal to the casual player. Personally...I just want to play as Sakuraba and get my vengeance on Silva. Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 12, 2003 Anyone have it yet? I'm going to get it right now.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 13, 2003 This game plays WAY better than UFC. Whoever says that the two games are the same should be shot.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 13, 2003 Sometimes the matches are just thrilling. I was playing as Sakuraba and Silva was pummeling me. Then I finally got a takedown and ended up pulling out a submission win!
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 13, 2003 It's playing just like I expected. It's pretty much like its real-life counterpart. Some matches are thrilling while others are really short or snooze-fests. *Goes to recreate the Sakuraba/Gracie Grand Prix "epic"*
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 13, 2003 Is Nogueira a bitch to everybody else? I haven't defeated this guy once!
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 13, 2003 Haven't touched Nog yet, Angle-Plex. He is arguably one of the best MMA fighters today if not the best, so it doesn't surprise me if they made him extra good. I'll fight against him to see if I can beat him in a little.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 13, 2003 Yeah, I've used every heavyweight in the game at least once to try to beat him, but he's just unstoppable (to me, at least). Nobody else has given me to much trouble.
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 13, 2003 Just beat Nog with Fujita. I didn't allow him to go to the ground and used counter punches and kicks into Nog whenever he got close. Nog is a bitch though. He can kill you easy on the ground and he won the Grand Prix I ran in spectator mode. Made Goodridge tap in one move with a heel hook out of a takedown. Only took seven seconds real time tops. Ye gods.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 13, 2003 I love spectator mode. Silva won the grand prix I watched. Nogueira had a tough fight with Heath Herring and Silva had an easy KO of Matsui so Silva was fresh and ended up KOing Nogueria in the 2nd round.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 13, 2003 I finally beat Nog with Schilt. I just kept him out of my range with Schilt's HUGE reach. He took me down once, but I just covered up until the round was over. My best fight so far was Silva vs Mezgar. Is went all 3 rounds (1R = 10 min, 2R & 3R = 5ming) and it didn't go to the mat ONCE. Lots of clinches.
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 13, 2003 The introductions of a Grand Prix match are really something to behold the first time around. The male English ring announcer sounds like a complete dork though. Just started making myself in create a fighter, all 5'7" and 163 pounds of me. The moves list is pretty complex with lots of chainable moves and potential combos. I still feel a bit disappointing that some people are still writing this off as no better than UFC:Tapout. Pride FC is to UFC:Tapout what WWF Wrestlemania 2000 was to WCW/nWo Revenge in terms of improvement. They're not at WWF No Mercy levels yet, but it's advancing in the right direction. Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 14, 2003 Is it just me, or does Guy Mezger always have great matches. No matter who I put him against, he always give an exciting, and usually long, match.
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 14, 2003 I'm starting to get fed up with Sakuraba dodging every other strike I throw at him. And in my latest spectator mode Grand Prix, Otsuka nearly made it to the GP Finals but Wanderlei ate him alive in the semis. Best match so far has been Frye and Fujita which was pure slobberknocker until Frye walked into a brutal uppercut to start the second round.

Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 15, 2003 I've just created the most dangerous fighter known to mankind..... JOE SON!!! Damn you to hell... I've created Joe Son, Tito, Sapp (although you can't make him as big as he really is), and Belfort so far. They all seem to be a little worse than the real fighters, even when I max them out on points. Fighting with the bars off makes the game MUCH harder. You have to use your mind to decide when to attack and when to defend, since you don't know how much stamina/health you have. It's a lot more fun with the bars off. Guest fazzle Report post Posted February 15, 2003 Well, I just won a free copy by winning the EB tournament for it here. 2/3 falls using Mezger 6 victories, 0 losses. w00t! Now to put more time into this game..
Guest CED Ordonez Report post Posted February 16, 2003 "Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm round of applause for the champion, DAIJIRO MATSUI~!" OK, so I bumped it to easy mode. Sue me. I did K.O. Dan Henderson with a motherfucking dropkick, which was pretty damn funny.
Guest Lord of The Curry Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Schilt is the best, bar none. I fuckin barelled through a Grand Prix with the guy and 90% of my victories came from TKO's. Reach is the key my friends.
