Guest Si82 Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 I was over at Amazon.co.uk and spotted "Sex, Lies, and Headlocks: The Real Story of Vince McMahon and the World Wrestling Federation". Now, I've been think about picking it up for a while but I've read mixed reviews. I was just wondering what you guys think of the book and wonder if it's worth buying. Other recommendations are also welcome.
Guest Sykotic2002 Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Get it. It's a real good book. Alot of stuff about WWE and WCW.
Guest Frankie Williams Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 It took me one day to read it. Dispite quite a few mistakes, the book is a real good read.
Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Excellent book. I learned a lot of things about the history of Vince that I never read anywhere before. One of my favorite wrestling books.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Eh. It was okay, but its more scandal oriented than business oriented. The definitve book on Vince McMahon and the business has yet to be written (because I'm still planning it, tentatively titled "What The World Is Watching")
cawthon777 Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 Haven't read it myself, just skimmed through. Seemed like it was big on being anti-WWF.
Guest JMTapes Posted February 11, 2003 Report Posted February 11, 2003 It's a decent read, but nothing too special. -JM
Guest THE MIGHTY THOR Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 Pretty good book, quite a few mistakes here and there but a nice read.
Guest dpac Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 I would say pick it up. It is a good quick read, and has alot of stuff in there that i never knew about, personally i found the pillman stuff quite interesting, like how there was the rumor he saw the ghost of his exwife right before he crashed his car
Guest Lil Naitch Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 I thought it was a pretty good read. I'd recomend it.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 Just started reading. We'll see if this thread is still up there when I'm done. =b
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 13, 2003 Report Posted February 13, 2003 I read parts of it. Seemed too tabloid-ish. It felt kind of fake or exaggerated to me. I just couldn't feel that I was reading an accurate description.
Guest Dangerous A Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 I recommend it whole-heartedly. However, you may want to wait for paperback.
Guest RepoMan Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 It's a pretty good read. I liked the stuff about the origins of the NWA and how Vince Jr came to own WWF, but I knew most of the stuff after that.
Guest Si82 Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Thanks to the majority of people recommending the book I have gone and ordered it from Amazon.co.uk today. So I should be getting it shortly. I might post my opinions here on the book once I've read it. Thanks again guys!
Guest The Mighty Damaramu Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 Well I'm a little late but I'll still chime in. It's a great book. But it does have a few glaring errors. Like saying that Lex Luger slammed Yokozuna on July 4th 1995.........it was 93 dude.
Guest converge241 Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 I think its worth it..if you dont mind a quick read.. as pointed out you can probably plow through it in a day
Guest Luke Michael Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 It's a good book but if you're a big smark you'll probally already know most of the info in the book. But it is a good read. It's not the full WWF book that we've all been waiting for but it's still a good book until we get the really great one. I really wish someone like Pat Patterson would get fired, get pissed off, and then write a book about the WWF. That would be great!! We need all the stuff Vince has done in closed doors that we don't know about. Of course if Pat wrote the book we'd never get the whole story on the ringboy stories. Not that most wrestling fans want it anyways.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 14, 2003 Report Posted February 14, 2003 I'll wait till my Borders gets desperate to move them and just cuts the price to clear them out...they do that after a book gets a little too old.
Guest cynicalprofit Posted February 15, 2003 Report Posted February 15, 2003 decent book, dont shell out more then 10$ for it. most of it you can read about online anwyas for free.
Guest Si82 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I got the book yesterday and started reading it. I'm about halfway through it and I'm finding it really enjoyable. I might manage to finish it during the 5 hour gap I have between lessions at university.
