Guest gthureson Report post Posted February 11, 2003 Not sure of the specifics, but CBC just reported it. I'm sure there will be countless reports in the T.O. media soon enough detailing how this will affect how the team is run. But feel free to discuss. Myself? I doubt Bell Globe will open up the bank for the team. They make a crapload of money with an average to slightly high payroll, and get enough playoff dates to clean up in the spring. No reason to change how things are run.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted February 11, 2003 I wonder if they'll keep Quinn on as the GM. It would be foolish to fire him outright, as he's a pretty good coach, but he seems to be gunshy as a general manager. Bob Gainey's free.
Guest gthureson Report post Posted February 11, 2003 Quinn has always been a fine coach, but a poor GM. His time running the Canucks were filled with the same questionable player moves as the Leafs, and the team only made their run after he was allowed to coach again after his ban ran out. With an actual GM, and Quinn behind the bench, they made a run. (This was back when the Canuckleheads were nailed for tampering by negotiating with Quinn while he was still coach of the Kings. They put a four or five year coaching ban on him, so he just GM'ed the Canucks into the ground.)
Guest gthureson Report post Posted February 11, 2003 Oh yeah, the Raptors were part of that deal too, if anybody cares.

Guest starvenger Report post Posted February 11, 2003 I think it depends on who they get to run the team. If it's Larry Tannenbaum, like most people think, then there shouldn't be too much disruption, although I'd guess that either Dryden or Quinn would be gone. I don't have too many problems with the Steve Stavro era. But then, the first half of my life was during the Ballard era, and frankly anything would have been better...
