A lot of people are saying that the NBA should switch to U.S. v. the World since the latest run on intl. talent.

What do you guys think?

I think that this would be a poor idea. While the World may have a decent starting five, to fill out the roster would require guys who don't even start on their own team. Up against a team consisting of Shaq, Kobe, Duncan, TMac, Kidd, etc. they would just get blown out. Stick with East v. West is my opinion

The World wouldn't stand a chance.

They could probably play the Rookie-Sophmore game. US vs World. Just have a Rookie-Sophmore World team vs Rookie-Soph. U.S team.

The US/World option will be there in about 3-4 years. It depends on the talent that comes through the draft, as well as the guidelines for deciding the team. Is it based on birthplace, or something else?

The bright stars in the game now...

--Duncan (would the Virgin Islands be considered U.S. territory?)

--D. Nowinski

--P. Gasol

--S. Nash

...and the younger foreigners making waves-

--N. Hilario

--T. Parker

--N. Tskitischvili

--Y. Ming

They could do another game of US vs World during the weekend. Maybe put some of those "snubbed" games in there. But to make the whole All-Star game US vs World is retarded. There simply aren't enough good ones. All Star team is supposed to be about the best players. To make up a world team you'd have to come up with a bunch of guys that don't deserve to be all-stars just to fill out the team. Which would mean a lot of guys that deserve to be on there wouldn't make it.

Instead of the Rookie-Sophomore game they should have a "YoungStars" game like they do in hockey. But while hockey uses only guys under 24, the NBA should use guys from years 1-3...

And leave the East vs West format. You've got some great foreign stars, but not enough to justify a full squad just yet.

I like the current format of Rookie and All-Star game. They're fine to me the way they are right now.

Drop the celebrity basketball game and use the World vs USA format or let MTV host the celebrity game again. Was it really necessary to have two celebrity basketball games, one on Friday and Saturday? The whole Friday night events were completely boring as it was nothing other than fluff news stories of legends and a celebrity game.

East v. West, but it's not like I'll be watching it anyway...

I thought the Friday night game was a whole lot more fun than the 3 on 3 thing Saturday night. Watching Tim McGraw outplay everybody and Bol block Ice Cube was some of the most entertaining parts of the weekend.

Neither. East/West is no contest anymore and US/World wouldn't be either. I say just pick the top 24 players regardless of conference, assign team captains, and let them pick their squad. I want to see Kobe vs. Shaq, or Kobe and Mcgrady on the same team. Something different then the same old players against the same old players every season.

What do you mean no contest? Double OT doesn't count as "no contest" to me.

Wait until 2005 to implement this system...and Make it a best of Three "05-07" and that should end the debate and then return to the East/West...

However look at the NHL games...They are so much better east/West then NA/World...

I think its fine the way it is right now. While the foreign born players are good there not better than the American players like Kobe, Iverson, Shaq, KG, TMac and Vince Carter. While it would be very competetive the American players are simply beter and it would a blow out

I tried to come up with a mock roster for these two teams if they did it. Here's what I got...

US

Shaq

Duncan

Garnett

Bryant

Kidd

Iverson

McGrady

Pierce

Payton

Webber

B. Wallace

Brand

World

Yao

Nowitzki

Kirilenko

Stojakovic

Nash

T. Parker

Divac

Gasol

Turkoglu

Giricek

Radmanovic

Kukoc

I don't think the world stands a chance. The starting lineups you can come up with are great. But once you get past 7 or 8 guys, the bench is completely empty. Just a bunch of mediocre players that are pretty much interchangable.

A few more years the format might be reasonable due to the increasing use of foreign players. But they arent quite there yet.
