cawthon777 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2003 I know there was a thread up quite a while back that dealt with stuff like "I slap my gum like Mr. Perfect" ... "I do the bad ass motherfucker walk like Stone Cold" ... etc. I'm not talking about that. How has wrestling - whether directly or indirectly - gained your interest in other things? For instance ... After the 1992 Bret Hart music video "Makin Some Noise" by Tom Petty - I became a big Tom Petty fan After I watched an Andy Kaufman TV special back in 95 and learned of his feud with Jerry Lawler, I became a big Kaufman fan When Jesse Ventura was elected governor of Minnesota, I became interested in politics For YEARS after seeing Summer Slam 92 (still my favorite PPV of all time) ... as well as Monty Python & the Holy Grail ... I begged my parents to let me go with them whenever my dad would go to London on a business trip. I finally got there, about a year and a half ago, on the morning of 9/11 I think I've learned the correct spelling of every major city in America and am very aware of many of the arenas in North America rich in wrestling history (MSG, Cow Palace, Nassau, Meadowlands, Maple Leaf Gardens, etc)

Guest papacita Report post Posted February 12, 2003 I've become an arena freak too thanks to wrestling. I'd say the match graphics that WWF and WCW used for TV shows (i.e. before an Owen Hart/Diesel match, an image of both wrestlers comes up on screen...I think you got it) was what originally sparked my interest in photoshop and stuff like that. I was never really into writing until I began writing my own wrestling storylines. And I've still got a thing for Chyna.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted February 12, 2003 I was never really into writing until I began writing my own wrestling storylines. I'd go along with that. Wrestling def got me into journalism, at least to a degree.

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted February 12, 2003 I got into ICP through wrestling. I remember hearing about JCW, and never one to miss out on a commercial release of a wrestling tape readily available in Strawberries, I bought volume 1. I laughed my ass off at the commentary, and didn't mind their match with Terek The Great and Truth Martini on it. When they came to WCW in 2000 to side with Vampiro and Muta and The Demon, I dug it. And then the music just grew on me a whole lot...
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted February 12, 2003 The WWF's video packages inspired me to make some of my own, and I'm pretty good at it today. Wrestling toys were also the first toys I collected and I now have a massive action figure collection.
Guest MillenniumMan831 Report post Posted February 13, 2003 Heel promos is what got me into Public Speaking...and that got me to where I am today... Not that I am into or even good at public speaking, but 'pretending' I'm cutting a promo instead of saying a mundane speech helped me out quite a bit in my Effective Public Speaking class. I guess it's all in the confidence.

Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I learned a lot of what I know about the anatomy from Gorilla Monsoon. Roman Numerals from the WM's. Geography from birthplaces and events. I currently am majoring in Marketing - so I try as best I can to put things in relation to the WWE to give it a context so I can remember it better. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Wrestling also got me into journalism as it's one of the reasons I'm in journalism school. In Latin class I was ahead of the class when we learned Roman numerals because of Wrestlemanias
Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Learning about all the drug abuse that Eddy Guerrero did scared me the HELL AWAY from drugs, probably for my entire life. Watching some of the women wrestlers (like Molly) has given me a desire to get lean and strong, so I can kick some ass. That could be considered a good thing... WWE, ECW & WCW have expanded my musical horizons, as well. I never would have started listening to, say, Pearl Jam & U2 if their music hadn't been used in some way. I probably wouldn't have been exposed to these musicians otherwise. Also: I've considered a career in sports therapy (or massage therapy), in the hopes that I could someday work with WWE. cawthon777 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Wrestling also got me into journalism as it's one of the reasons I'm in journalism school. <---- Journalism major myself I got into Jimi Hendrix big back in 97 because of Hogan and the nWo. Bought a 'Best of' CD, took it to college with me, had it stolen, and have yet to find another copy anywhere. In addition, wrestling has gotten me into some classic rock (AC/DC - Highway to Hell, ZZ Top - La Grange; Dustin Rhodes & Barry Windham's theme song), a lot of the early-mid 90s grunge and alternative rock (ECW), and even some of the current stuff (Our Lady Peace, Kid Rock, etc). I had been exposed to the music before but it wasn't until I heard it on a regular basis that I started liking it.

Guest T®ITEC Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Mick Foleys book Foley Is Good helped me in US History Class since his entire epilouge is dedicated to the McCarthyism stuff. That section of the book is *so* much better than any school lesson I've had on McCarthyism. Sadly.

Guest RavishingRickRudo Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Typing in Message boards and Chats really increased my typing and writing skills. Various internet wrestling writers have effected the way I write as well.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Wrestling influences me a lot....almost too much. I usually like all the PPV theme songs and get addicted to them and like them. Ditto with the songs they used for video tributes. I'm also an arena freak (or at least try to be). I got into using Adobe Premiere cause I love the music videos they do. Roman numeral knowledge cause of Wrestlemania. And probably the fact that I want wrestling to be my life (as a wrestler) when I get out of high school and hopes that I go down to OVW and get my thing down there, then hopefully to the WWE. TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted February 17, 2003 My musical tastes have definatly widened thanks to wrestling. Definatly, i'd never even heard of Salive or Drowning Pool before they wrote theme music for wrestlers and PPV's. However, i WAS subjected to that AWFUL WrestleMania theme, and then again years later when Linda for some reason started to use it as her enterence music. Guest SP-1 Report post Posted February 18, 2003 Wrestling is one reason why I've taken on the battle of defeating the obesity that has plagued me. Not the only reason, but it's given me models to go after (Jericho's defined but not grossly cut definition, for example, Rocky's lean figure, etc). And it's influenced me as a storyteller. Recognizing the importance of the underdog, building a payoff, things like that.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted February 19, 2003 If I get a dog, I'm gunna name him Perfect. If I get a dog, I'll name him Stupid Dog. ...That doesn't have much to do with wrestling, does it?
