I Love Hair Bands

Recommended Posts

Guest Plushy Al Logan

I have been listening to hair bands for a while now, and they brought back memories. I also realized that bands like Bon Jovi, Poison, Whitesnake, etc. do not suck like everyone tells me.

You're right. Hair bands are better than the modern equivalent of hair bands.

Modern equivalent?

Well, like back in the day hair bands were all over the place. You couldn't throw a beer can out the window without hitting 14 hair bands. It was the default musical style. And they're better than the default musical style today. I'm not sure what the proper name for it would be, but you know what I mean. There's about a million bands that are all pretty much interchangable.

Why does everyone here seem to absolutely hate them? To tell you the truth I think they were better than Nirvana.

Well, a lot of hair bands are worthy of hate. It's a relatively small ratio of them that were good.

Hey, I grew up up on 80's Rock and Metal. I'd be lying if I said I didn't like some of the Hair Band Stuff.

I think Tesla is the most underrated band to come out of that era. I don't think they should be be called "Hair" or "Glam" anyway.

I hate the Nelson twins band

Telsa is good for "Signs" other than that I know nothing of that band.

There's a whole heap of shit and a few good ones, but I'll still take most of it over the incubus-esque whiny-lyrics-mildly-interesting-percussion-out-of-place-decks-shitty-melodic-into-sad-power-bit-with-wussy-screams-SHIT that ruins my life today.

Dokken did suck, but my Ex-uncle(is that a thing?)/Godfather was in the band for a while, making them much better.

Hell yeah, dude! Now we're talkin about some REAL music. Poison and Whitesnake are bitchin, but I ain't never had no time for Bon Jovi. Buncha pussies, in my opinion. It's pretty inspirational and shit to think that that Richie Sombrero dude came to America from Guatemala without nothin and ended up bein all rich and shit, marryin Heather Locklear. But I still think he's a pussy, dude. His hair never even looked all that great. Probly my favorite band from all them was Skid Row, though. They weren't no hair band or no shit, really, but they kicked some serious ass! Ain't no pop bullshit on Slave to the Grind. I'll put on "Monkey Business" and get to bangin my head real good, even to this day. I might could sue Sebastian Bach for brain damage, I done banged my head to that shit so many times. It's fuckin bitchin, man.

No one hated hair bands in the beginning, but with any trend that catches fire, for every one quality group, there is about 5 more that replicate just to take advantage of the trend, thus bringing down the overall quality of the genre.

how can you say Dokken sucks when you like Mr. Big?!?!

One power balland one hit wonder Mr Big?

Get, Scorpions and Iron Maiden not really hair bands but good 80's band.

If you want something unique look for Michael Boltan as a glam rocker! Or at least that Cinderella music video that mocked him.

The shame about the copycat hair bands is that a lot of good guitarists got lost in the morass of crap. I mean, EVERY hair band, no matter how famous, had a guy that could shred out a cheeseball metal solo. A few stood out, like George Lynch, but for the most part, everyone just collected their earnings and use them to this day to buy lapdances and coke.

What kills me is the hair bands that are still kicking around the bar and state fair circuit, afraid to get old when they're really sad wrinkled characitures behind a Flying Vee.

The modern day hair band has traded in their Aquanet and spandex for a Metallica shirt and some black hair dye. It's the same damn scene, and the same song structure, the same anonymity, etc....only without all the girls. I don't know what the hell the problem is with the nu metal genre. With all the fame and money these guys have, they could be swarmed in females, but aren't for whatever reason. Ah yes, it must be the lame factor.

How can anyone talk about hair bands without mentioning one of the best bands of all time Guns N' Roses.

I'll take G N'R over just about any of todays "modern" rock music.

My mom saw them in concert with Aerosmith and Axl was singing "Sweet fucking Child O' Mine" I'd love to hear how that went over.

This hair band vs nu metal thing is stupid. Cock rock is cock rock. They both suck.

hair bands of old always tour the local clubs around here. The owners love it, and they hate METAL, even though the METAL shows outdraw the hair bands. You see it on their faces when a METAL band is there. They kind of pretend to be enjoying themselves. I mean hell, Eric Martin(Mr. Big) plays here at least once a month. Who in the hell would want to see Mr. Big in concert?

I agree that a lot of those 80's hair bands were eons better than most of today's Nu metal crap that's playing ad nauseum on MTV or radio (see: Linkin Park).

Coverge241 mentioned a lot of bands, but my favorites from the era were Cinderella, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Dokken (George Lynch ruled, I tell you), Poison, Scorpions (up til World Wide Live), Tesla (get The Great Radio Controversy or Five Man Acoustical Jam), Skid Row, Bon JOvi, Saigon Kick (The Lizard ruled),and the occasional hit song from guys like Kix, Faster Pussycat, and the like. I'm sure I'm forgetting some of them at this time.

There's lots of good stuff from those kind of bands, so if you're interested at least give them a try. If you don't like 'em then you don't like 'em. I grew up to that music and always enjoy it, it brings back great memories.

Mr. Big has what most hair bands lacked...talent...

c'mon the able to harmonize bass and guitar during the solo, able to finger tap on a bass....jeez...have you ever checked out some of their stuff released from Japan...sure they might be one-hit-wonder in radio success, but these guys were the best.
