Kevin Garnett...

Recommended Posts

Guest AlwaysPissedOff

This kinda started as a debate in an AOHell chat, but I strongly believe that Kevin Garnett is the rightful MVP this year followed closely by Tracy McGrady. If they haul off and give it to Kobe just because of this lil 2 week hot streak he has going, I may have to destroy my TV...

What are your thoughts so far? Does KG deserve it or not?

I agree with you whole-heartedly with the K-Gar thing. Kobe may be able to score points, but the Lakers could fare with out him. They could do fine with just Shaq. The thing is, Garnett is practically carrying his whole team, and is just putting up great performance after great performance, and is keeping his team alive. Tracy is also in my top list, along with Dirk Nowitzki.

I would say Garnett is a solid choice right now along with T-Mac either one and I wouldn't complain. I want Duncan to win just because he is my favorite player and a class act so any time he could be in the running I want him to win.

Kobe irritates me beyond belief. Whoopdee do he scored 51 against the Nuggets. What they fail to mention is that Kobe's Lakers allowed the Nuggets to score over 100 which should automatically count as a loss. Kobe will singlehandedly win the lakers 10 games this season probably and he does it flashy enough to where he will most likely win, but there is no way that he should.

Heh, bring up the fact that the friggin' World Champions allowed Denver to score 100 points to some Laker fanatic and they get all whiny and say how it was garbage time and shit...

Oh, and I wouldn't be mad if Duncan won again because quite frankly, the Spurs would suck major ass without him. So would Orlando without McGrady, as well.

On a sidenote: I heard the funniest thing on a sports talk radio show a couple of nights ago. Some Laker was calling in about the Lakers/Kings game and ripped into some of the Kings fans who talked about it would have been a different game if Webber and Jackson had played. Funny thing is, this same jerkoff was saying the EXACT SAME THING when Shaq was out.

Fuckin' hypocrite.

No doubt that Garnett deserves it. Has for the past few years. People wanna put him down because he hasn't gotten past the first round. He has single handedly managed to get that team into the playoffs all those years. One player vs 12 and getting into into the playoffs? If that's not a MVP the award has no meaning. How does Shaq win MVPs but Garnett doesn't? To me a MVP is a guy wins games for you. Shaq is usually on the bench during crunch time because of his inability to hit free throws. I don't a think a MVP type player would ever have to be benched during crunch time. I don't know if Garnett ever sits down.

I still believe that it is really too early at the moment...

But I do Believe that We've narrowed it down to a fine line of about 6 legit candiates...

Kevin Garnett

Kobe Bryant

Tim Duncan

Tracy McGrady

Ben Wallace

Allen Iverson

I'd love for Duncan to win just so the casual fans go "Zuh? Who?". Seriously, the quietness of Duncan scares me...he has Serial Killer written all over him.

Right now, i would have Kevin Garnett and Kobe my 1 and 2 for my MVP award picks. Garnett simply has been the MVp of his team since Stephon Marbary let for the Nets. Hepretty much is the reason why the T'Wolves have been making the playoffs for the past couple of years.

Kobe, has been on a torrid pace lately scoring averging 42.1 points the last few games. he has really come into his own this year since Shaq is slowing down. if he keeps up on this pace hes at least in the top 2 of the MVP voting. Like Garnett, Kobe is a class guy that has really grown up from being the wild 18 year old to the Jordan-like player he is today.

To me these are the best 2 players in the league

Here's the problem though...Can you justify giving a MVP to the star of 6-8 seed? Some people might find it differcult to do such. Which gives Duncan an immense edge.

Let's Face it...Kobe can go two ways...

Get alot of votes because he is an mainstream superstar...or LOSE alot of Votes because he is a "Pretty Boy" and people will point to the early troubles of Laker season and blame Kobe...when it was also the Assistance's fault.

When has that happened since the '00 - '01 season? He's improved a ton on his free throws. I don't think he's MVP this year though.

Duncan shouldn't win it this year, simply because it was highway robbery that he won it last year.

My vote goes for TMac. He has the worst supporting cast around him of any of the other contenders, and he's done it for a large portion of the season with a bad back. His back is probably hurting from carrying his team the last 3 years.

It's happened in every Lakers game I've watched this year.

Shaq hasnt sat out of the 4th quarter of a game since 99-00 when he was the MVP. Lethargic I dont know what Laker games your watching but Shaq even since hes come back has played the 4th quarter of games all this year. Its stupid to think that shaq has not won games because the guy has led his team to 3 championchips in a row, won an MVP and has won 3 Finals MVPs. Shit up to this year, Shaq was the only reason the Lakers won games sometimes (i.e. 01 Finals, 2000 Playoffs). At least give the man credit.

Took a look at the numbers....

Wallace is out. He simply doesn't have the offense.

As a Sixer fan, it pains me to say it, but I don''t see Iverson as the MVP. Bryant's got an edge in just about every catagory outside steals, as does McGrady.

I like Duncan, personally. He's got the most balanced game, including 3.0 blocks a game, more than Ben Wallace. Of course, my opinion could change.

I go with KG, with T-Mac a close second. Don't get me wrong, Kobe's got game and right now is the best 2 guard in the world, but he has the best center on the planet to help shoulder the burden. Let's see Kobe do what KG and T-Mac have been doing with little or no help and vicious double teams virtually every time down the floor. With Shaq in the middle and unstoppable, it's hard for teams to double Kobe and he gets free reign in their offense.

Here's my candidates

Dirk

Shaq (say what you want, but without him, the Fakers would still be in the cellar)

Kobe

KG

Kidd

McGrady (record may be a factor in this case)

Duncan

U can't put Shaq here because he MISSED a good chuck of games this season...Performed under his normal numbers...Been a Public Embarrasment to the NBA this season...No chance.

In my view, what Shaq has done with Burger King is simply unforgivable. The rap albums were bad, but that crap was just awful.

I should also add Jason Kidd into the running. He is just an excellent player, and his team would not be NEARLY as good as they are without him. He can just play a multi-dimensional basketball game, and deserves to be in the running as well.

Bah. Duncan got robbed in 99 when Malone won it for no suitably explained reason, but really, Kidd did deserve it last year.

I really have a problem with Kobe being in the running when it's been proven that he can't guide the team to anything without Shaq. If he DOES win the MVP, then the judges are full of shit because all he got it for was just having a 2 week hot streak against a bunch of loser teams and a Webber/Jackson-less Kings.

Don't get me wrong, Kobe's a great player, but "Most Valuable"? Get the fuck outta here.

Malone won merely because it was the first chance the voters had to reward him...

Bullcrap. I'm pretty sure he was the MVP during one of the Jazz's Finals runs against the Bulls.

Nope...Jordan won 6 MVP's all during his championship seasons...

Malone won the Season shortened MVP in 1999.

KG is a good choice, but right now I have to go with Mcgrady because KG has a little better help then T-Mac. The Magic don't have a front line or a consistent number 2 scorcer like KG has. But watch out for Kobe, he's got that flame going now, hemight keep this pace up since Shaq playing on cruise control right now.

Unrestricted free agents include Gary Payton, Jermaine O'Neal, Scottie Pippen, Reggie Miller, Derrick Coleman, Patrick Ewing (ha), Jon Barry, Karl Malone, Sam Cassell, and Clifford Robinson.

Free agents with player options include Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Antonio McDyess, Theo Ratliff, and Ron Mercer.

Free agents with team options include Ron Artest, Andre Miller, Steve Francis, Darius Miles, Lamar Odom, Robert Horry, Kenyon Martin, and Shawn Marion. I'd be surprised if any of those guys are available.

Then Why was I hearing things about S.A unsure about Garnett or Kidd over the Break?

BTW-I am Convinced that Kidd wants to go to S.A and partake in a overhyped failure...

Wow. That is one NIIICCEE Free Agency roster...

Payton

O Neal

Pippen

Miller

Malone

Kidd

Nash

Any ideas of where these guys are going? I am convinced Kidd or Payton will land in San Antonio. Malone is Retiring in Utah or New Orleans. Miller will retire a Pacer. Nash will get a Monster deal with Dallas....Pippen will sign to another playoff contender like Detroit or Orlando.

I would be perfectly happy if I never saw Tim Duncan next to ANY trophy for the rest of his career.

I'll stick with Tim Duncan. The Spurs are basically a one man team, and are in 3rd place in the West not far behind Sacramento for 2nd best record.

Garnett's really stepped it up at the end of games. Either one is deserving.

McGrady's team record hurt's him. He doesn't have the 2nd scorer, but Duncan doesn't the Spurs have one of the best records in the league.

I'm not so sure about the Spurs signing a big ticket PG they've got Tony Parker who is only 20 and getting better every game. They should sign Olowakandi and a SF.
