Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted February 14, 2003 Once again I try to give some dap to a band I like and don't hear much about around here. Anyone who likes "darker" metal I point them to BOC. They are truly the godfathers of today's black and death metal. Very hard guitar work without being punk and creepy surrealistic lyrics. My favorite tunes would be their two hits in Don't Fear the Reaper and Burning for You along with Cities on Flame with Rock 'n Roll, Flaming Telepaths, Joan Crawford and Take Me Away. If you're a metal fan and unaware of them, check them out.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted February 14, 2003 Eh...I'm indifferent to them. If someone had them on the radio, or bought me one of their albums, i would accept it, but I'll be in no hurry to rush out and buy the album... Also, last year Guitar World did an article on BOC, Just FYI

Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted February 14, 2003 I love BOC, great group. "Summer of Love" is probably my favorite song of theirs, along with "...Reaper"
Guest WrestlingDeacon Report post Posted February 14, 2003 I saw them at the Ohio State fair around three years ago with Steppenwolf. Great show from both bands and it's what really got me listening to both.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted February 14, 2003 Ummm..."darker" metal comes directly from Bay Area thrash, which was spawned from NWOBHM, which was directly affiliated with the first-wave of Euro Metal (Sabbath & Scorpions), which was influenced heavily by blues rock. No BOC there, sorry. But, nonetheless, EXTREMELY talented band. "Astronomy" is one of my favorite songs EVER, and it's kind of impossible to not like "Don't Fear The Reaper," or even the ultra-cheesy "Godzilla."
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted February 15, 2003 Best thing about BOC? SNL April 99, Christopher Walken hosting "Guys, I gotta have more cowbell!"
Guest 5_moves_of_doom Report post Posted February 15, 2003 Yeah, they did Frost's theme song. I like them by default. I mean, DUH.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted February 15, 2003 Like most people of my age group, I'm forever endeared to Blue Oyster Cult by the presence of the song "Don't Fear the Reaper" in The Stoned Age.
Guest Hogan Made Wrestling Report post Posted February 15, 2003 A great band. Don't Fear the Reaper is a classic, and they have plenty of other quality works.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I always thought the band needed more cowbell
Guest Respect The 'Taker Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Wern't these the guys who wrote Astronomy? If so, they got my praise. UYI
Guest Suicide King Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I've seen BOC live twice now, and each time they put on one hell of a show. They truly don't care about the size of the venue they ar eowrking and put their hearts and souls into each performance. I cannot praise them enough for their music or their dedication. And of course Buck Dharma is my god.
Guest Suicide King Report post Posted February 16, 2003 And why has no one mentioned the seminal classics "Burning For you" and "Veteran of the Psychic Wars?"
Guest red_file Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Like most people of my age group, I'm forever endeared to Blue Oyster Cult by the presence of the song "Don't Fear the Reaper" in The Stoned Age. So that movie wasn't just part of an acid trip. Cool. BOC's one of those good-to-great bands that never gets quite the credit they deserve.
