Guest Lil Naitch Report post Posted February 15, 2003 Well, it's Saturday morning and both of the Mortal Kombat movies are on. So what did you think of them? IMO, the first was superior, both in casting and in execution. The second was sub-par, with a few casting changes (Raiden for one, and the recast sucked) and a bunch of second-rate actors. Luke from Buffy was the big bad? Johnny Cage killed in the first 5 minutes? wasssupwitdat? That's my short forum on the subject, now onto you.
Guest HollywoodSpikeJenkins Report post Posted February 15, 2003 Liked the first one. Hated the second. Im a Johnny Cage mark. Fucking, HE SHOULDN'T OF DIED!
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted February 15, 2003 When the first movie came out, I just sat back and though to myself "Well that's ... stupid." Sorry, I'm just not very likely to jump onboard and get behind a video game movie - especially after Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter. That and I didn't really buy into all the hype surrounding Mortal Kombat when it first came out. I've seen the first on TV; it wasn't all that bad. I didn't stick around to watch the second in its entirety but Johnny Cage being killed off right from the start was pretty shocking.
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted February 15, 2003 Jesus Christ the second Mortal Kombat movie sucked balls. I felt like shooting myself in the face just so I wouldn't have to watch another second of that piece of garbage. The only thing that kept me remotely interested in watching was that one of the chicks was hot.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted February 15, 2003 The first was ok for what it was, a corny video game movie...but the second one was just the shits.
Guest art_vandelay Report post Posted February 15, 2003 I think they focused too much on trying to cram in all the characters and elements of MK2 and 3 into the second film. I mean, "Animality"? If you're going to use it, at least come up with a better name. The funniest part about the movie was Jax's cyborg arms. Cyborg arms which looked like rubber and could be stripped off. But I agree, the chicks were hot.
Guest areacode212 Report post Posted February 15, 2003 They seriously had Animalities in the second movie? That's fucking retarted. Animalities were thrown into MK3 as something of a joke to begin with. I saw the first movie at a discount second-run movie theatre. It was a fun, cheesy little video game movie, and it provided a couple of cool markout moments when Scorpion & Sub-Zero showed up. It was stupid, but not especially offensive. I didn't even bother checking out the second one. I figured that asking for two not-horrible Mortal Kombat movies in a row was too much to hope for.

Animalities were thrown into MK3 as something of a joke to begin with. Yeah. After an encounter with Nightwolf in a desert, Liu Kang is told to release his inner power; his "animality." Sure enough, in the final scene of the film, he defeats Shao Khan by transforming into a poorly-animated CG dragon.
Guest red_file Report post Posted February 15, 2003 I thought that the first was at least better than the Street Fighter movie. There were enjoyable elements in the movie, and a lot that could've been improved. The sequel committed one of the worst possible sequel offenses: recasting characters with lesser actors (and considering the quality of actors in the first one, it boggles my mind that they couldn't get everyone to come back). Conspiracy_Victim 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I personally loved the first one. Johnny Cage was just enough of a smartass, Raiden was the man (Christpher Lambert rules it all) and Talisa Sato and Bridgette Wilson provided enough of a babe factor (although Cameron Diaz was originally cast as Sonya, think about THAT one). Throw in a couple pretty kickass fights in Cage/Scorpion and Liu Kang/Reptile and you end up with an above average video game movie (apart from the bad Goro). The second was..well..WOW was it bad. Killing off Cage was unforgiveable (even though they did it in the game too ( to the decision on both counts), Raiden was bad, and the bad guys were pretty much awful. I mean, at least in 1 you had Kano to despise before he got punked out. Here, you had Brian "I was Cyborg dammit" Thompson as Shao Kahn. By the way, where the hell was Stryker? I wanted to see him blow someone up dammit! Well, I guess I'll wait and see how 3 will turn out. Yep, Mortal Kombat: Domination is in preproduction. It's got the same woman from 2 playing Sonya (Sandra Hess), the same guy back as Jax (Lynn Williams aka American Gladiators' Sabre), and Robin Shou back as Liu Kang. Plus, they'll have Kenshi, baby! I'll give it a wait and see attitude. P.S. Dude, the guy who's playing Kenshi was a Power Ranger! He was the "Quantum Ranger", whoever that was. Discuss if you wish. Guest RenegadeX28 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 The first movie was awesome. I loved the cast for the MK1. Like others have said....the second one was ok, but not as good as the 1st one.....

Guest Cavi Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I like the first a lot more than the second. I remember the day when my friends and I went to see it. Man, that intro got us HYPED. Fun movie all around. The second is pretty crappy, but it's still fun in its own way.

Guest chirs3 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Mortal Kombat was pretty darn good, I thought... for a video game movie, I mean. I fortunately have never had to watch Mortal Kombat 2 all the way through. 30 minutes was enough for me.
Guest cpac Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Here is a little tidbit for all of you. Mortal Kombat 1 was the number one movie in america for 4 weeks in a row I believe in late August and early september of 1996. I believe ity made 10 million a week and did maybe 60 million in the box office, not bad.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Street Fighter, and both Mortal Kombats are all enjoyable movies. They are terrible movies, no doubt, but there's no way they could have been good. As a bad movie afficianado, I love them all.
Guest SP-1 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I liked the first MK movie. ESPECIALLY Scorpion and Cage (I think) in the forest. When the spear creature came out of Scorpion's hand it was like one of those, "OH TAG~!" moments you experience in a schoolyard brawl or something. Excellent stuff. MK2? I saw it in the theaters. I want so badly to like it but ultimately I don't think I'd go out of my way to ever see it. And WTF is up with all the Super Mario Brothers movie hate?? I love that movie, seriously. And to this day I want a sequel because of how it ended.
Guest eiker_ir Report post Posted February 16, 2003 i really love the SF fighter movie, it doesn't take itself seriously at all....unlike the MK movies The first MK is very good for a videogame movie, but i just get more entertained watching the campy SF flick..... Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Both MK movies are better then the street fighter one. That was such a crapper of a movie. And who could take Raul Julia (RIP) serious as the evil M Bison? Quick history lesson...Balrog was suppose to be M Bison and vice verca...they wanted the boxer to be M Bison (Mike Bison), but for some reason backed out. Gotta agree with this. Or it might be that I just really love Samantha Mathis.

Actually, that's how it is in Japan, but you mixed it up a little bit. In the Japanese version, the boxer is Bison, the Spaniard is Balrog, and the Psychokinesis dude is Vega. I think they switched it arund just so Mike Tyson wouldn't give them shit. Actually, the Japanese Vega's full name is Balrog Fabio la Cerda. So there's another celebrity they might have had to deal with.

Guest Lil Naitch Report post Posted February 17, 2003 I loved Super Mario Bros. and I'd love to see a sequal. I never saw the SF movie, although now I seem to remember the comercials. Incidentally, does anybody see the arallels from then and today. Back then, all the popular videogames got made itnot movies, today it's comics. At least the comics amake better movies. Guest Cavi Report post Posted February 17, 2003 Other than the MK movies, Double Dragon is my favorite videogame movie. I'm a total mark for it. If the SF movie is on, I watch. Bison has that pimp hovering thing which has a SF II arcade stick & button layout.
