Guest pappajacks Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I didn't get a chance to watch Smackdown this week. Did the WWE show a video package highlighting Hennig's career? Did they mention him at all?
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 None.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Yeah, I didn't realize this until last night when I said to myself "Hey, wait a minute! There wasn't a Hennig tribute on Smackdown!! What the FUCK!!"
Guest pappajacks Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Damn, we gave them the benefit of the doubt on Monday because the tragic news happened just a couple of hours before the show. What do the WWE apologists have to say now?
Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 they just showed his picture on raw... Not even a tribute of 10 bell sounds... JIP!
Guest Showstoppa Icon Report post Posted February 16, 2003 youd expect SD and RAW to have seperate tributes since theyre seperate companies.....Wait a minute
Astro101 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 That would make too much sense! TNA had a nice picture/poster of him, I think a towel and his tights on a chair in the ring in a dark and empty arena and sounded 10 rings. It was touching.
Guest BiOHaZaRD EX Report post Posted February 16, 2003 That is messed up. Not even a mention of Curt Hennig on SD..........
Guest MrRant Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Pretty big story on WWE.com though.

Guest CanadianChick Report post Posted February 16, 2003 My memory is shot right now: did Bulldog get a 10 bell salute?
Guest papacita Report post Posted February 16, 2003 My memory is shot right now: did Bulldog get a 10 bell salute? Nah, he didn't.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Bulldog got an 20 minute piece on Confidential though... I am strong believer that Wrestlers who pass shouldn't have Tributes on Normal TV but Special pieces reflected on them ought to be shown on Confidential. It's not on this week because they already planned a Rerun and had nothing else to play with the Henning video... Besides...Unlike Bulldog...They might not have been able to get Family Images and interviews...I'd rather they wait a week then see an rushed 5 minute "We miss ya Curt" type of deal. Guest bob_barron Report post Posted February 16, 2003 My memory is shot right now: did Bulldog get a 10 bell salute? Nah, he didn't. Yes he did. He got one when they ran a show in Calgary- although it was off camera
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Bulldog got the WWE.com treatment like Hennig is getting, but Bulldog got a video package, a Confidential dedicated to him, and as Bob said...10 Bell salute in Calgary. Hennig has a Photoshop graphic.

You're right cause they just said they'll have a tribute to Henning next week on Confidential.
Guest The Tino Standard Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I might be wrong, but as far as I can remember, WWE only gives the 10-bell salute to wrestlers on camera if they passed away WHILE they were employed by the company.
Guest Rob Edwards Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I wouldn't panic yet, hopefully they are putting a confidential together for him but then I said they'd put a better tribute on SD after the photoshop job on Raw so who knows?
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 16, 2003 Why should've they even had one for Smackdown? He wasn't a current wrestler, they paid their respects by acknowledgeing his passing... They didn't have a Video tonight because it was already an Re-Run...I'd rather it get more time and treatment then be rushed with old segments...and air it on a new show. It's not like they are going Gene: Curt Henning Died Monday, Let's make a Video for Confidential... Vince: BAH! He jumped Ship and Nearly killed my precious Brock and my son...er...in law! He gets no treatment! Gene: Please Vince? Vince: Well, Fine...But not until next week! They likely taped it this week and just won't air it until next Saturaday. Guest El Satanico Report post Posted February 16, 2003 I don't think wrestlers should get major TV time for a video package on their passing either. However they should put up a picture and born-died at the beginning of both shows.
Guest jessecartieri Report post Posted February 16, 2003 None. Like I keep saying, it would be different if they killed him. Then they would put on a good PR damage control move to stop from looking like rat bastards who didn't have the decency to stop the show out of respect. Then have the whole roster pretend that Hennig was their best friend, and of course, have Brock come out at the end and F5 Matt Hardy in his honor. Of course, in WWE language, this would all be a "moving tribute." Then months later they have Hogan feign a heart attack and the announcers sell it like said tribute. NYU 0 Report post Posted February 16, 2003 The man was not employed by WWE at the time. And, when he WAS employed, he almost pushed Brock Lesnar out of an airplane. The WWE SHOULD acknowledge his death, but it is kinda ridiculous to expect them to make a 5-minute tribute for a man that isn't even in the company. What next ? If Bastion Booger dies one day, does he deserve a 5-minute video tribute with the 10-bell salute ? I mean, he was employed and all, right ? In my opinion, you have to draw the line somewhere. They acknowledged him, put up his picture, paid their respects, and are giving hom a memorial segment on Confidential. That should be enough. You people act like Vince didn't friggin mention the guy at all.....

And for those of you who are comparing this to the Bulldog, well, it's more PR. The moment Vince screwed him over in death, the Harts would be up his ass faster than Shawn usually is. They don't care about anyone unless what's left of their image is in danger.

The moment Vince screwed him over in death, the Harts would be up his ass faster than Shawn usually is. They don't care about anyone unless what's left of their image is in danger. Right. Because let me tell you, when I turned on the news that night, the first thing at the top of the hour was: Newscaster: Today, the British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith passed away and our condolensces go to the entire Smith family. But we know who's to blame for this. Vince McMahon. Fuck Vince McMahon, since he's responsible for all of this. Hey everybody, let's boycott this asshole ! Besides the bitching of smarks, the world wouldn't change whether there was a Bulldog bell-ringing or not. The news certainly wouldn't have covered it and, in the long run, the British Bulldog death did absolutely nothing to WWE PR. The WWE PR is not in danger every time a wrestler dies when the wrestler is not even in said company !!!
Guest Brian Report post Posted February 17, 2003 I think personally the WWE's refusal to recognize guys from the past is part of what drives away that older audience.
Guest HartFan86 Report post Posted February 17, 2003 I think personally the WWE's refusal to recognize guys from the past is part of what drives away that older audience. Definately agreed. It's disrespectful, and that's one of the big things the old, old, hardcore WWF fans want.

You cannot compare the two in any way shape or form.
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted February 17, 2003 The hell is up with the talk of all this 10 bell stuff? As far as I know, they've only used it once during the stinker Raw that was the fallout of the Owen disaster. Am I right, or does it go further back than that? Oh wait, they also did a 10 Bells for Big Show's deceased Fake Dad and the Bossman interrupted it to do heelish acts.
