Guest Rob Edwards Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I've just finished watching the Dreamrush 92 classic 2/3 falls match and I was wondering what peoples thoughts/ratings etc were on it and how they thought it compared to the DS2 match I personally thought it was slightly better than the DS2 match (though I'll need to watch again to make sure, it might just be me marking for Mayumi again) mainly because I loved the subtle (and not so subtle!) heel tatics Kansai and Mayumi were using I've never seen the 3rd match between these teams, I'm assuming it was good but how good was it (for anyone who's been able to track it down)
Guest Tim Cooke Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 My favorite Joshi match right along with Hokuto/Kandori. The DS2 match is a good match but lacks all the little extra things that the DreamRush version has. The third match is just 1 fall and a fun match but no where near the first. ***** all the way. A top 10 match of all time. Tim
Guest wolverine Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 As of my last viewing, it was the 2nd greatest tag match I had ever seen, trailing Misawa/Akiyama vs. Kawada/Taue 12/6/96. Really amazing intensity, as in off-the-charts, with the electric crowd reminiscent of All Japan at its peak. I thought Ozaki's performance as the bitchy heel who wouldn't take shit from anyone was fantastic, with her work at this point being as high it ever got. Yamada was super here as well, all fired up with the kicks and suplexes being awesome. Then we had Kansai really brutalizing young Toyota, with the powerbomb to end the first fall really striking me as memorable. Their interactions reminded me a lot of the Kawada/Akiyama story during 12/6, actually. The match does have several flaws that I tend to overlook, primarily because what they did in there was really about as great as it gets as far as exhibiting a genuine love for your sport. As far as comparing it to their DS II rematch, I honestly don't think they're close at all. The rematch has never been a particular favorite of mine since it contains several things that bug me--the lack of heat being just one of them. It was harder for me to look past the execution problems during the sequel, because they weren't exactly setting the world on fire in terms of work or passion, so the blown dropkicks by Toyota, and slipped up kicks by Yamada really stood out. It's certainly a great match, but it just so happened that they raised the bar in the previous match to a level that few, if any, have ever attained again.
Guest Rob Edwards Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Yeah there were a few slip ups in the sequel (I seem to remember a blown attempt at a rolling cradle towards the end) but I don't think I'd put them as far apart as that, sure DR is obviously the better match but DS2 had it's better moments (imo the spots are better in the sequel) and I don't tend to take heat into account as much as some. I couldn't agree more when it comes to Ozaki though, I was especially marking at her tatics when Manami or Toshiyo were attemptingh to reach the ropes. Simply Awesome and certailnly the best I've seen her (or maybe anyone)
Guest PlatypusFool Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I'll add to this thread in a week or so when I've received my copy of Dream Rush. Perhaps this is a pointless post then, but I felt like mentioning the fact I'm gettig this match soon. Yes...
Guest DragonflyKid Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I'll be picking up my Dream Rush tapes tomorrow, I've seen the ME off a comp and it's up there with 6/9/95 as my two favorite matches ever. I've been meaning to watch all three encounters consecutively but I was inundated with a batch of new tapes a few weeks ago so I delayed it. The 12/6/93 match is great and worth getting but doesn't measure up to the previous two. 11/26/92 ***** DS2 ****3/4 12/6/93 ****1/4
