Condition of comics

Do you guys take a look at the spines and the condition of the comic before you buy it, and then bag and board?

I bag and board, but I don't look at the spine condition.  I guess that I'm not that concerned with that...

heh, I just bought my first batch of bags & boards in years. I don't care as much about condition as much as I used to...I've just been piling them up on various tables & shelves around my room, but I'm going to buy some new boxes & start sorting them again (I need the space on those tables & shelves).

Same here.  I have a bunch of bookcases (the cheap, 3-shelf particle board type) but they're all used to either hold VHS tapes or old Maxims...

If you are a serious collector, it is probably better to bag and board your comics.

When I go to the comic store to buy the new stuff, I take time out to look over the copy of the issue I want.  I will examine everyone of them that is in the stack and I will narrow it down until I feel that I have chosen the best comic possible out of the bunch.

I have closets and bookshelves full of comics.  They are all bagged and board.  It just gives you a better guarantee to keeping your comics in mint shape.

But I also know a lot of guys who do not bag and board their comics and they have silver and golden age comics.

It just depends on how you feel about bags and boards.

Where do you guys store your comics anyway? In boxes under your bed, in trunks in the attic, or what? Under ideal conditions (i.e., when I'm not stacking them on various tables & shelves), I place them in boxes under my bed, but the boxes I had been using all broke, so I need new, longer ones.

I use those comic boxes to store my comics, and i put it on my floor since I don't have any closet space and can't fit it under my bed.

Anyone use mylar bags?

Heh I have one mylar that I bought hoping to put my Fantastic Four 48 in, only to find that it was too small to hold silver age comics, so I basically bought it for no reason.  I don't even like it, it's so #### bulky that you can't get comics in and out of it, even if they're the right size.  I'm certainly never planning to buy another one.

I bag and board all my comics, but I'm more a collector of classic comics than I am someone who buys comics off the shelves.  If they're worth the time to buy on eBay, they're worth the time to bag and board.
