With all due respect to guys like Backlund and Bruno, but the WWF could not have become as big as it is now if these guys were the best flagbearers the company ever had. It took Hogan to make the company a world-wide entity and it took guys like Bret Hart and HBK to give the title credibility.

Well, I could see that argument for Bruno since Vince Sr. did try to go national in the 60s, but Backlund was never really given the chance to see if he could get over outside the northeast.

 

Then again, Backlund was getting booed against Hogan in 1980, so he wasn't really that over in the northeast either.
