ESPN's new front page = vicious

I looked at it, and it really caters to broadband internet users; it's rather neat, to tell you the truth. It's also getting a lot of negative backlash on their message boards.

What do you guys think?

To hell with espn.com. If I want to watch videos, I'll ask for them. I don't need crap I don't need to see taking up valuable bandwidth on my 56k.

For a dial up connection it sucks big time. It is taking forever for the headlines to load which is the only thing I really care about. When I get back to school it will be cool but for dial up this is a really crappy move.

I think it's ugly and annoying. I download the motion stuff back when it was optional. Had it for a while, thought it sucked and got rid of it. I'd imagine it suck hard on dialup. But get out of the stone age. ha

I'm officially done with espn.com. First, the fact that I couldn't avoid their piss-annoying pop-ups forced me to switch my homepage to nhl.com, and now this piss-annoying "motion" thing is going to force me to use either cnnsi.com or tsn.ca for my sports information.

Leave this kind of shit as an optional page, not something that's forced down my throat immediately.

First off - ESPN Motion is OPTIONAL. It doesn't work unless you download and install it.

The picture is awesome (right-click it and select "full-screen", holy shit!)

As long as the content gets updated frequently, I'm visiting every day.

STOP THE PRESSES! I've changed my mind. The "no-buffer" video is a scam.

All it does is cache the video files to your hard drive (Documents and Settings-All Users-Application Data-DIGStream-ESPNMotion).

So now my hard drive is filled with 40 MB worth of files I DIDN'T KNOW were being sent there

It looks alot better than it use to and the motion stuff is optional. You click on top story above the top main window where it's showing the videos and the motion disappears.

Hmm, interesting. Let's see.

*Clicks over to ESPN*

Wow, I'm trying to read about Maddux's deal and that O's pitcher who died, and I have this annoying music coming from my speakers.

If I wanted to watch video, I'd turn on TV. I check out Internet web sites to read articles, but if people like this then whatever...

If you're going to boycott every site with popups you have about 2 sites on the net you can visit. ha Just get a pop up stopper. I've never seen a popup on ESPN.

I've never seen a popup on ESPN.

Then you're not looking very hard. Orbitz is the exclusive pop-up provider of ESPN.com.

I think the new Motion video is cool...we'll see how long that lasts.

EDIT: And tsn.ca sucks.

Like I said, I have a popup stopper. I don't see any popups anywhere on any site.

Generally, I cannot STAND any site that greets you with sound as you arrive. For once, thank got my sound card is busted.

As far as the HD space goes, they write over the previous movies every time another one is available.

I think it's a pretty cool feature since I rarely get to watch Sportscenter.

I actually don't hate the video as much as I thought. It seems to work a lot better now than it did in it's trial run. I hate everything else though. I don't like the new coloring for the links in the headline section. Makes it hard to read.

I shouldn't have to get greeted by sounds and motion and then have to switch to something else to avoid it. If I wanted to see a moving picture and audibly hear sports news, I'd turn on my TV. I'd prefer it if they had the top story as the main feed, and the motion as the optional feature.

And in terms of a pop-up stopper, there's enough pages that I frequent and enjoy that do NOT have pop-ups (or have few enough) that I feel it's necessary to DL something to avoid them. Plus, it's not like enough is shown on the NBA-SPN, oops I mean ESPN, main page to make me miss going there. If I really need to see something that interests me at ESPN, it's just a matter of going directly to sports.espn.go.com/nhl/index, and I can skip the whole debacle.

I like it. Yes if I want highlights I can watch Sportscenter, but I can catch a highlight on my computer if someone else is using the tv or I don't feel like getting up and going to the living room.

It doesn't take much time to download one, why limit yourself and then grumble about it?

I just deleted a dozen and a half of them from my hard drive, so I don't think they've mastered the idea of "overwriting" yet. It's not that the space is a concern; it's just that I don't want the movies sitting there on my HD.

I've had ESPN Motion since shortly after they debuted it. The site doesn't default to that when you load it now, but it's an option you can pick. I wish more sites would cater to broadband users, actually, or at least have a broadband version of their pages. Streaming video r0x0rz.

I'm from Massachusetts: I ALWAYS need something to grumble about.
