Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I rarely see westerns mentioned here on the boards and they are a favorite genre of mine. The Searchers is my all-time favorite film and John Wayne truly is one of my favorite all time stars. I figured if you guys like anything it would be the Clint Eastwood man with no name flicks. Pale Rider whips more ass than any other movie ever. It's just a tight, eerie thriller that really expands and plays with some western conventions after the genre was thought long dead. Just some intitial thoughts. Talk about any western movies or actors you'd like.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I like El Topo personally. Halucinogenic spaghetti western, you can't go wrong. Back to the Future III was pretty good too.
Guest razazteca Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 1. Unforgiven 2. Tombstone 3. Young Guns 4. Quigly Down Under
Guest El Satanico Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I haven't seen many westerns. I was neveer a big fan so didn't bother with them. But now that I've seen The Good, The Bad and The Ugly I'll probably try watching the other Clint Eastwood westerns now. I don't think i can get into John Wayne or the other older westerns.
Guest Mik at Cornell Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Shanghai Noon. If I have to be serious...I will go with the Searchers. I had to write a paper on it while I was in Australia.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I think High Noon takes it for me. Gary Cooper = maximum pimp. I also love Kurosawa's Yojimbo, and I do tend to count it as part of the genre.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I haven't seen that many westerens, and my vote goes to Unforgiven...
Guest godthedog Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 'the man who shot liberty valance'.
cawthon777 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Not huge on westerns but Eastwood always kept my interest in 'The Man with No Name' roles.
Guest redbaron51 Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Unforgiven Tombstone The Good The Bad and the Ugly... I can't stand John Wayne
Guest Brush with Greatness Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Unforgiven Magnifecent Seven The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
Guest Youth N Asia Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I like a lot of the ones mentioned, but here's a couple that no one's said yet. The Red Headed Stranger Barbarosa They Call Me Trinity They Still Call Me Trinity My Name is Nobody The first two are Willie Nelson movies, both are pretty cool. and the Trinity movies are comedy/westerns, they're pretty good.
Guest Flyboy Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 1. Tombstone 2. Young Guns II 3. Young Guns 4. Unforgiven
Guest DrTom Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Tombstone Unforgiven The Magnificent Seven Silverado The Outlaw Josey Wales Any of the Eastwood "man with no name" series
LaParkaYourCar Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Tombstone Unforgiven The Cowboys (the only John Wayne movie I like) Other than that I'm not really into westerns.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY. The only Western to combine the gritty realism of UNFORGIVEN with the pop mythology of HIGH NOON. Soundtrack kicks ass too.
Guest LooseCannon Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Westerns aren't really my genre, but I like: The Wild Bunch The Searchers
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Treasure of the Sierra Madre Unforgiven
Guest Ravenbomb Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Tombstone Magnifecent Seven Ghost Town
Guest cabbageboy Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 No one has mentioned Red River or Ride the High Country? Bah.
Guest Crazy Dan Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I loved The Wild Bunch... has one of the best Western shootouts in the end.
Guest ArkhamGlobe Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 I love Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns, and in particular Once Upon a Time in the West, where, to me at least, his operatics reach their zenith to create one of my favourite films of all time. I'll do a brief top five as well: 1. Once Upon the Time in the West 2. Rio Bravo 3. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly 4. Unforgiven 5. The Outlaw Josey Wales
Guest Luke Cage Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 High Noon The Searchers Tombstone Buck And The Preacher
Guest Crucifixio Jones Posted February 19, 2003 Report Posted February 19, 2003 Dr. Tom pretty much stole my list except he left off The Wild Bunch and I'm not as big a mark for Tombstone as everyone else. I don't really like the movie and Val Kilmer is the only reason to even give it a chance.
