What's Your Favorite Western?

Recommended Posts

Guest WrestlingDeacon

I rarely see westerns mentioned here on the boards and they are a favorite genre of mine. The Searchers is my all-time favorite film and John Wayne truly is one of my favorite all time stars. I figured if you guys like anything it would be the Clint Eastwood man with no name flicks. Pale Rider whips more ass than any other movie ever. It's just a tight, eerie thriller that really expands and plays with some western conventions after the genre was thought long dead.

Just some intitial thoughts. Talk about any western movies or actors you'd like.

I like El Topo personally. Halucinogenic spaghetti western, you can't go wrong.

Back to the Future III was pretty good too.

I haven't seen many westerns. I was neveer a big fan so didn't bother with them. But now that I've seen The Good, The Bad and The Ugly I'll probably try watching the other Clint Eastwood westerns now.

I don't think i can get into John Wayne or the other older westerns.

Shanghai Noon. ^_^ If I have to be serious...I will go with the Searchers. I had to write a paper on it while I was in Australia.

I think High Noon takes it for me. Gary Cooper = maximum pimp.

I also love Kurosawa's Yojimbo, and I do tend to count it as part of the genre.

I like a lot of the ones mentioned, but here's a couple that no one's said yet.

The Red Headed Stranger

Barbarosa

They Call Me Trinity

They Still Call Me Trinity

My Name is Nobody

The first two are Willie Nelson movies, both are pretty cool. and the Trinity movies are comedy/westerns, they're pretty good.

THE GOOD THE BAD AND THE UGLY.

The only Western to combine the gritty realism of UNFORGIVEN with the pop mythology of HIGH NOON.

Soundtrack kicks ass too.

I love Sergio Leone's spaghetti westerns, and in particular Once Upon a Time in the West, where, to me at least, his operatics reach their zenith to create one of my favourite films of all time.

I'll do a brief top five as well:

1. Once Upon the Time in the West

2. Rio Bravo

3. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

4. Unforgiven

5. The Outlaw Josey Wales

Dr. Tom pretty much stole my list except he left off The Wild Bunch and I'm not as big a mark for Tombstone as everyone else. I don't really like the movie and Val Kilmer is the only reason to even give it a chance.
