Guest The Tino Standard Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 So, while I'm buried in snow here in Athens, OH with my classes canceled (a snow in college? HELL YEAH), I started channel surfing this afternoon... What showed up on TNN? Chuck Norris in "Invasion USA"... The synapsis from my digital cable guide: "Slavic terrorists with bazookas attack Florida on Christmas, prompting an agent to come out of retirement." You can't make this stuff up. Norris rattles off classic lines such as "If you come back in here, I'm going to hit you with so many rights, you're gonna be begging for a left" with such deadpan style, I laughed so hard, I was in tears. This has got to be in the all-time top 10 Greatest Bad Movies. Anybody else get the joy of watching this?
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 Oh, lord yes. Most of Norris' 80's action pictures were horribly bad. I highly recommend Delta Force, Hero and the Terror and the Missing in Action trilogy. Invasion U.S.A is just one of those movies you set there and watch thinking it's some kind of science fiction movie, because there's no way in hell it takes place in our plane of reality. (As a side not to Tino, I live in Zanesville and have tons of friends at OU. I am also equally snowed in.)
Guest The Tino Standard Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I think the best scene has to be the night before Christmas where the Slavic terrorists just come into a neighborhood on a flatbed truck, put on their goggles and use a bazooka to just blow up six houses. Then they cruise out of the neighborhood, blatantly ignoring a stop sign just for good measure. GOLD. This scene was actually shown in my Western Civ class freshman year. Our professor was showing us Cold War-related pop culture. Sadly, Rocky IV somehow was left out.
Guest red_file Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 I just love the duel at the end. Grenade launcher vs. bazooka. Lovely.
Guest C.H.U.D. Posted February 17, 2003 Report Posted February 17, 2003 This one of my all time favourite 80's action films and my favourite Chuck Norris film. Screw watching it on TV though, I have the widescreen DVD.
Conspiracy_Victim Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Good lord I loved that movie, and still do. The scene in the neighborhood is priceless. I mean, the family has their little Norman Rockwell scene with the Christmas tree w/presents and sitting down to a perfect Christmas Eve dinner then BOOOOOOM! Everything turns to flaming crap! No rhyme, no reason, just random acts of violence. Digging Norris out of the wetlands, gtetting all the terrorists into ONE BUILDING, then having Chuck go in there and single handedly handing this highly trained terrorist group their collective ass (especially blowing up, nay disintegrating, the leader with a bazooka in slow motion) with a sneer on his face and a one liner in his heart brings a warm fuzzy to my being. Delta Force was good, but this is the shining pinnacle of Mr. Norris cinematic career.
Guest Vern Gagne Posted February 18, 2003 Report Posted February 18, 2003 Agreed about Delta Force. The cast is pretty impressive. George Kennedy and Shelley Winters both Academy Award Winners.
