Guest NoCalMike Report post Posted February 18, 2003 I am watching Donahue right now and out of his OWN MOUTH he has said he does not believe we have made the case to occupy bagdhad and start bombing Iraq.....wtf, was I day dreaming or something?? He said we should still be 100% focused on Al Qaeda/Taliban. I am flabbergasted. Oh well, I guess he has "seen the light" haha....thoughts? Did anyone else watch the show? Did I just not hear it right?
Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted February 18, 2003 He's always said that. He always plays up the nice sounding points of his fantasy foreign policy. However, if we took troops out of South Korea like he wants to do, there'd be a lot more violence in that part of the world.
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted February 18, 2003 Buchanan is an isolationist. He wants the U.S. out of all countries.
Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted February 18, 2003 Can't say I disagree on that. At least military isolation anyway.
Guest Olympic Slam Report post Posted February 18, 2003 Buchanan has been against ANY war effort since 9/12, 2001. Not only does he want military isolation, he wants economic isolation. He loathes NAFTA and the fact that American businesses have factories overseas.

Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted February 18, 2003 OS, that's why I said I agree with the military isolation only. Economic isolation simply won't work anymore, the world's economies have simply become too intertwined with each other at this point to reverse the process. He loathes NAFTA and the fact that American businesses have factories overseas. I can't entirely blame him, seeing that my family's main source of income and also our county's largest employer is laying off more and more and more people as they move operations overseas. Still, I usually know if I agree with Buchannan on something, he's almost always only providing the half of his opinion that rings good with the general public (and right now, his anti-warmonger position probably fools in a few lefties who are tired of the hawks)

That's one of the U.S' biggest problem is that we don't make anything anymore. Our entire economy is based on consumption of junk for the most part and (surprise!) when people want to save their money for worthwhile expenditures, the economy faulters. So if you or someone you know works for a business that provides needless services, they very well could be looking for work elsewhere. Our standard of living is so wonderful that our economic downturns (like right now) pretty much consist of web sites like pets.com going out of business or Disneyland reporting low attendance. Guest Some Guy Report post Posted February 19, 2003 WHy don;t you think he came close to winning the GOP nomination for Pres? He's not a Republican in the current Reagan/GW Bush brand, he's a "Neo-Conservative" or whatever. He's to the left as far as isolationism (anti-free trade) and to the right on social issues (gay marriage, abortion, welfare, etc...). I think that we as a country stick our nose into others business way more than we should, but to pull us out of everything would ruin our country, just like Pat think the immigrants are ruining it. (Although he has a point about the illegals). It is kind of funny that some people blast this guy (I don;t mean anyone in particluar) and they really don't know what he stands for. BTW, he is a pretty funny guy, a total wise ass when he wants to be. "Bill Clinton's foriegn policy experience is pretty much limited to having breakfast once at the International House of Pancakes." "That giant masquerade ball up at Madison Square Garden (the '92 Dem National Convention), where 20,000 radicals and liberals come dressed as moderates and centrists in the single greatest exhibition of cross-dressing in American political history." "We don't need some character in the Department of Education with sandals and beads telling us how to educate our children." "I admire Ted Kennedy. How many 59 year-olds do you know who still go to Florida for spring break?" All these are from " The 267 Stupidest Things Democrats/Republicans Ever Said." It has 267 quotes from members of each party. It's pretty funny. Although a lot of what is called "stupid" is really jokes taken out of context from both parties, most of it is butchered language, tons of Dan Quayle, Bush Sr., both Clintons, Marion Barry, the usaual suspects.
