Promo - All My Life

Down the hallway, to the left, enter through the door, don't bother knocking...

High above the ground, through the half drawn curtains can be seen the sun, just beginning to set over the city, as a pleasant breeze sends the drapes fluttering, as below on the street, many people go home, to wives, families, people they love.

Slowly panning through out the darkened room, they see a man in the corner, leaning against a wall, a shot of whisky in one hand, and the other, a shot of whisky. It's easy to tell the man never drinks, but as he stands alone, head held down, eyes closed, you can tell he's thinking. The cameraman opens his mouth, ready to say something to wake the man from his thoughts, but the man...

Blackwell lifts his head, looking at the cameraman, and just... shrugging. The cameraman seems confused, but as Blackwell downs the shot glass and resumes his silent, meditating state, the man behind the camera tip toes back out the room, knowing the man wants to be left alone, with his thoughts...

"Ok, let's play hide and seek!"

"But last time you peeked!"

"I promise I won't do it again! Come on, let's play!"

"Ok, but no cheating!"

"If you say so!"

Both children giggle as the girl runs off to find the best hiding space. She is sure he won't find him this time, but through the slits of his parted fingers, the boy tries his best to not make himself heard as he watches the girl skip away, watching her closely. Each mother laughs as they watch their children play, the boys mother glaring at her son, and he soon closes his fingers so to see complete darkness.

"10! Here I come!"

The girl leans up against the fence behind the tool shed, she also tries her best to stop her giggling, but it's too much as he peeks her head around the side, watching him as he searches high and low. The giggling soon gives the girl away as the boy rushes up to her and starts laughing. They both do. The boy tags the girl on the shoulder and quickly rushes away, running to the other side of the yard. The girl squeals and follows close behind, hand outstretched, yelling at him to come back.

Sitting up against the tree is another boy, he watches the pair play together silently, maybe even a little envious. He hikes his knees up against his chin and looks up at the sky, the clouds, the plane flying over head, seemingly in awe of this thing that is life. He watches a single brown leaf, drift in the autumn air, slowly coming down to earth, landing on the grass beside many more of it's kind.

His mother watches him, putting down her cup of coffee, sighing. The woman beside her asks, "What's wrong?"

"Chris... he's always by himself like this, almost anti-social..."

"Don't be foolish Judith, I've seen him with his friends, I know he doesn't talk much, but my does he make them laugh."

The woman smiles, "You're right, there's no need to worry, but sometimes... Sigh, I don't know, there's a part of him I can't reach. It's troubling, you know?"

"Every mother worries about her children, it's natural, but take it from me, you have two wonderful sons, although I'll admit, An is much more livelier. Just look at him and my sweetie, playing together with so much joy."

She laughs, "I know, it's just like they were meant for each other."

Leaning by the tree, the boy watches his brother and the girl play together, so full of bliss, not a care on the world. He too has not a care in the world, but for some reason, there's is always something troubling him, and he doesn't know quite what, but that it keeps him silent for most of the time, just... thinking. He smiles though, as he watches the two play together, wondering if he will ever have someone like that to share all his time with. He loves his brother dearly, but worries about him often. The mood swings happen often, and he doesn't always paint a pretty picture in class...

His mother watches him, as her friend continues to talk despite no one listening. She sighs, wondering what is going through his head...

"-And Bill didn't even notice! Imagine that! J-Judith? Something wrong?"

She turns back, embarrassed, apologising immediately, "Sorry, my mind just left me for a second there. So what did Bill say...?"

They play in the sandbox. She makes a sandcastle, he bowls it over in his truck. Any other girl would start crying, but instead she throws some sand at his shirt, giggling insanely. The boy laughs. He is too mature for his age, and somehow he knows it. Sometimes he feels like he doesn't fit in, but in reality he has a ton of friends. Nothing can shake this feeling from him though. A boy of 12 years shouldn't think like he does, but somehow, this makes him different, more special then other people his age.

While his life is stable and quiet, his brother on the other hand, can't control himself sometimes, often getting himself into trouble. He loves his brother though, and being the eldest child, he takes the role of them man in the house, even though he is far too young.

The day his brother got bitten by that snake, was the day he decided he needed to grow up and act as a guardian. While most kids his age were sneaking into movies with crude language, sex and violence, he was watching out for his family.

He wanted to get a job, but his mother said he was too young.

He downs the second shot of whisky, gasping soon afterward. He curses himself, and knows that he is still like he were as a child, but through nineteen years, he has grown wiser. He looks back at himself at such a young age, and wishes he could do it all over again, to have more fun, like a kid should.

One thing hasn't changed though, the desire to protect his brother, and his family, and that is something he will not stop doing until the day he dies.

Very, very nice backstory work. This is truly great writing. Here's hoping that you continue to write this well in your matches.

You are the one reason why I don't want to be debumped. Damn, man. That's one fantastic promo there, and I wish I could get stuff out that was as deep as that. See, THIS is the way to build a background. And, btw, I love your matches as well. Keep them up, okay :D?

Best roleplay I have read in a long time. I could feel the sun in my eyes as I glanced up at the plane, and the sand in my undies as I bulldozed the castle down.
