Guest godthedog Report post Posted February 19, 2003 i was trying to install a firewire port into a pci slot of this hp 520w that i'm on, and it doesn't seem to fit exactly. it won't fit completely into the slot, and even when i get it in as much as i can, when i turn the computer on it isn't being read as new hardware (like it should be). tech support has, of course, been fucking me in the ass. this happen to anybody else--if so, what did you do about it? Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted February 19, 2003 Sounds like it's an AGP firewire you're trying to install, which you can't unless you have a free AGP slot.
Guest hardyz1 Report post Posted February 20, 2003 AGP slots are only for video cards, though. Hence the name "Advance Graphics Port".
Guest MrRant Report post Posted February 21, 2003 You may have to give it a little more "umph" when plugging it in.
Guest DrTom Report post Posted February 21, 2003 I don't keep up with HP models... is it possible you have a half-height expansion slot? PCs built with desktop instead of tower configurations these days often have that problem.
Guest TheGame2705 Report post Posted February 22, 2003 Check to make sure it is PCI and then push in as hard as you can but not too much. I have an HP and it is a pain to get PCI installed physically and on the comp.
Guest deadbeater Report post Posted February 28, 2003 Stupid questions: How are you fitting it in? Are you putting it in between, say a sound card and the 10/100 TX card? Also, is it one of those motherboards where they placed the battery and or a CMOS switch right alongside and under the would-be placement of a PCI card? You may look for that. Other than that, clear area of debris and dust and try again. Have to do it to my system too.
